Yep. Interesting how Vitali tends to quit under adversity. He quit when Maskaev gave him a hard time in the amatuers. He also backed out of a fight with Hasim rahman FOUR times including just one day before the fight. He can't handle a little bit of pain.

Oh yea he can't take the pain, what a *****.
I love how people are running their mouth that Vitali is running from Rahman, hiding behind injuries. I guess he was taking all these operations just for fun so he didn't have to fight the amazingly dangerous Rahman.

Apr 2000: Rupture of Supraspinatus shoulder tendon. Operation in Hamburg's Fleetklinik. 6 months recuperation period.
Jul 2001: Cruciate rupture of left knee. Surgery in US. 4 months recuperation period.
Jul 2005: Ligament irritation on the spine, surgery. Surgery. 2 months recuperation period.
Nov2005: Cruciate rupture of right knee. Surgery in US. 4 months months recuperation period.

Google "cruciate knee ligament" ruptures, look how people describe the pain. They can't walk, how on earth is he possibly going to fight like that?

Vitali gets money for fighting, he has all the motivation in the world to get in the ring to fight rather than go into the surgery room without getting paid. You realize that?

I know i broke my Scapula playin football, Any jackass who talks crap on a shoulder injury without experiancing on needs to STFU he also wasnt fighting some bum out there like Danny williams, and At the size they are that'd be one hell of a painful injury and could cost you your career, he made the smart choice and has been what a 3 time champ now all the while his only losses were due to injury... Yeah he sure has no heart :patsch

Was it worth it for Holyfield to finish the fight against Byrd instead of quitting "like that ***** Vitali" with a torn rotator cuff? You be the judge. Here's Vitali 10 years after the surgery doing pretty well, how did Evander do after the Byrd loss?

I was pulling for Byrd and was excited at the end because in the 9th round the momentum was switching in his favour, but lets be realistic, he was dominated and lost every round exept for 5th and 9th which he won because Vitali fought with an injury. Even if he won all the remaining rounds he would still lose a UD.

I'd be interested to know what happened against Pele Reid, I bet he quit i that one. He'd have quit against Lewis too, if the doctor hadn't got in first - you could see in his eyes at the end of the 6th round that he'd had enough and wanted out of there.

Don't forget Vitali was ready to quit against Arreola and Peter. You could see it in his eyes. Vitali wanted out of there.

They were just a bit faster and quit first. Vitali just got lucky!

Evander was 40 years old when he refused to quit against Chris Byrd. Vitali, was only 28 years old in the prime of his life. This means Vitali was unable to do something an Old man was able to accomplish. That old man, went on to fight another 8 years..and is still fighting strong at age 48. Seems like the Injury didn't have any long term affect on the old man. Admit it, Vitali could have gone out, sucked it up, and played around with byrd for 2 rounds...kept his title, kept his undefeated record..and preserved his reputation. Instead, Vitali chose the alternative route.

Listen to what Larry Merchant has to say about it

"He does not have the mentality of a champion. I have never seen anything like this in my life."

Evander Holyfield always has an injury when he loses. Yes Vitali could have continued and win that fight and possibly end his career. Well it worked better for him because he got to realise his dream of being the heavyweight champion along with his brother and even exceeding it by dominating the entire heavyweight division.
