Williams fought STUPID, I mean really stupid. The guy had every single physical advantage going into the fight and used none of them. Now I know Paul doesnt exactly fight rangy but he threw every punch wide enough for Lara to throw straight down the middle. He was caught with the the over hand left every time because he simply was not looking, i dont know if he was trying to prove his chin or something but he got hit with it every single time. Now contrast to Lara who used his movement to make Williams run after him earl which worked to his advantage. Everytime they pulled back from a clinch Lara landed that jab left hook. The bottom line for Paul is, when your fighting a guy who had 300 am fights, was on the Cuban A team, who has a fantastic boxing brain, you dont try and rush the guy like you did against the Margarito's, Quintana's and Wrights, it just wont work. He need to atleast use that jab a little more assertively then he did, maybe double it up, move the head side step and just box smart for a portion of the round and then up the activity and try to back Lara up. Anyway it was a terrrible descision i had only 3 rounds to Williams, in a fight I believe Paul could have won had he simply boxed a little smarter. Thanks for reading guys :good
I thought to myself watching ths fight, and even said so on another thread, I think all boxing coaches should show this fight to all of their fighters who are tall for their weight class, as an example of how NOT to fight.
Confidence makes or breaks you in boxing. There was little doubt he'll succeed beating Margarito despite the odds, he'll avange the Quintana loss and beat Martinez convincingly, but whatever confidence he had that helped hm fight through obvious holes, and he succeeded at a top level, was taken by that brutal KO. What remained is a flawed fighter lacking the overwhelming confidence that didn't let Margarito or Wright into the fight, and what difference did it make! Yesterday it was Williams just throwing punches not trusting he'll land them, and that's not an attitude a pro fighter can continue his career with. There's a reason for easy comeback fights after a KO loss and that is getting the confidence back. From that perspective this win probably made things worse.
yeah, notice he lacked the "windmill" no-holds-barred punching attack that defined PW. He was tentative and that has to be due to his KO loss to Martinez.
I disagree PW got sparked by a straight left and it appears that he made no effort to deal with getting tagged by straight lefts to me that conveys arrogance, not lack of confidence
