Wlad vs Thompson. Was a decent fight where Thompson actually out landed Wlad in punches :bbb
I thought that this fight was very watchable and HBO kept saying that this was a good fight, not that I needed to be told that :D just an FYI.
In that fight Wlad also wasn't clinching like in most fights, there was a lot less jabbing that even Manny was begging him to jab. Lewis also kept saying that he needs to jab more. Wlad threw more rights in this fight than in any fight probably, except Peter:? Both fighters were cut in the second round from the punches. Larry Merchant kept saying that Wlad will tire and that would be Tony's solution. Wlad got a second wind almost right away.
Overall a good fight. We need more of these fights where a challenger troubles a champion.

Decent fight, nice finish. Thompson looked like he was taking a nap with the way he was lying on his arm.

One of numerous fights that shows how Compubox shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Well again that depends. Thompson landed many punches but with almost no effect. However, there are some fights were a puncher threw more overall punches, more meaningful punches but still lost. Just lets stay away from naming them for the sole purpose of keeping this thread clean. :good

I do agree on the fight though. Good fight

Really? When I watched this fight live I thought Thomson looked OK for the first 2 or 3 rounds, but really went into his shell after that. Part of that was Wlad of course, but part seemed to be Thomson himself. I can remember his corner saying basically the same thing to him between rounds.

Thomson spent huge amounts of that fight with his feet still, gloves as earmuffs, just stood there.

It was an OK fight, but Thomson was never going to win. He hit Wlad with a good body shot early that seemed to back him up in a hurry, but his punches are so sloooooow and wide that he was always going to get beat to the punch.

And as usual, I was yelling at the TV telling Wlad to hurry up and finish it. It went at least 3 rounds loonger than it should have.

It was OK as a fight. A regulation defence to be honest, I never thought the result was in doubt at any stage of the fight.

Waldimir didn't throw as many jabs because Thompson was not trying to get inside on him, IMO...

A solid title defense, stopping a guy who had never been stopped and looking good against a guy who is difficult to look good against. I thought it was a solid B+ effort. Would have been an A- if Wlad stopped him a bit earlier.

I agree with you. He could have finished him a bit earlier. But Wlad threw many right bombs that didnt bother Tony so maybe this was the right time for a KO. Breaking down with many rights and lefts and then a one punch ko.

I think it was more due to Tony being a lefty, a tall lefty at that with a bigger reach. :think
