You hit on a very important point, but of course you've misinterpreted it. GGG did look the more tired of the two, but of course GGG was the more tired of the two in the first match as well. The whole idea that Canelo has a small gas tank is mythology. Canelo lowering his output doesn't translate to being gassed. It's just that he's pacing himself so that he can remain fresh. In the rematch he made it a point to have a high work rate because he was criticized by GGG and many fans for lowing his output during the first match and picking his shots rather than throwing a lot of punches.

The argument you are making that he only achieved his high work rate in the rematch because he was taking PEDs is based on faulty logic about him having stamina issues previously. You are trying to equate Canelo's punch output dropping at times with having stamina issues. Canelo would drop his output at times just to maintain his composure. For example, utilzing footwork with his legs would allow his arms and upper body a chance to rest and recover. That was simply part of a strategy in the first match to give GGG something he had never experienced before. When he would stay in the pocket like he did in the rematch he was able to have a higher workrate because he wasn't relying on his footwork. Even in some of his matches when his work rate dropped, like in the 1st GGG match, he remained the fresher fighter in the championship rounds, which enabled him to finish those last rounds strongly. In the rematch he had maintained such a work rate throughout he did tire a bit by the championship rounds but he had already built such a big lead by maintaining the steady work rate throughout. It all comes down to strategy. Do you maintain a high work rate but risk tiring slightly late (like in the rematch) or do you lower your output so that you can recharge and finish the bout strong to leave a lasting impression on the judges?

That's all that happened, Canelo in the first match picked his shots more and was more cautious not knowing how dangerous GGG really was. For the rematch, after already been in there with GGG, he threw caution to the wind in the rematch and threw a lot more power punches not as worried about GGG's power as maybe he was going into the first match, and of course trying to prove a point to those who wanted to see him fight Mexican Style. Your belief that his stamina or gas tank improved dramatically in the rematch to begin is just your interpretation of what you think happened. He was being tested more thoroughly than ever before heading into the rematch. I don't think he suddenly gained an incredible engine in the rematch, it was just that he threw caution to the wind and had a different mindset one that was to have a high work rate. The conseqence was he was less fresh heading into the championship rounds and his aggression resulted in that 10th round where GGG hit him with a big shot. He didn't have that 2nd wind like he got in rounds 10-12 in the first match, but of course he hadn't gone through that lull of the middle rounds like in the 1st match so that makes sense.
