Just what does Margarito have going for him?

We all know the negatives: he's slow, he may be drained at 151, Shane Mosley may have cracked his once granite chin, etc.

So what do you guys think he might have going for him? He obviously has height and reach. The one thing I think he might have going for him is he will attempt to relentlessly attack Pacquiao's body and try to wear him down over the long haul. It will be incredibly difficult with Pacquiao's movement, but perhaps with the reach and advantage and an old Margarito's relentlessness, he might be able to do some damage.

Having said that, I admit to giving Margarito almost no chance in this fight.

What do you think Margarito has in his favor?

Aside from a useful and consistent uppercut and the substantial size disparity, Antonio Margarito is a fighter who has something to prove. He could prove to be dangerous.

  4. Margarito's chin is made of harder **** than the concrete used in the twin towers. Make no mistake - Mosley NEVER hurt him. No cuts, no bruises. Margarito went down on exhaustion (mental and physical).

Margarito walked through Cintron's best punches and then destroyed him. Margarito walked through Cotto's best punches and then destroyed him.

I get the feeling Margarito is gonna walk through Pac's punches as well.

VERY, VERY, VERY dangerous fight for Pac.

    :yikes

You really think he's gonna be possibly drained at 151? Why?

The majority of his career has been fought at welterweight..

It's just a common theme that has been stated on this site. I would suspect the reasons would be this: He may have fought a large portion of his career at Welterweight, but he was a huge freakin welterweight(like a Joshua Clottey, who recently announced he'll be going all the way up to middleweight).A lot of people have said that Margarito had been partying like a rock star after beating Cotto and was drained against Mosley. The year away from the sport also didn't help him and I'm pretty sure at some point one of his handlers said 147 was not a viable option. At 154 he's still a pretty good sized fighter though obviously not a huge guy like he was at welterweight.

Like I said, it's just a common theme that's been on the site regarding Margarito.

Pac loves to trade. That could work to Margo's benefit. Margo is a much bigger puncher.

If the fight against Mosley was an exhaustion KO, why wouldn't he be more at risk of an exhaustion KO against Pacquiao?

    Compared to Pacman:

    1. Physical Strength - So wont be getting out clinched like he did vs Mosley.
    2. Height and Reach - But he never uses that so that dont count.
    3. Chin
    4. High Workrate
    5. More comfortable at 151

    Other than that:

    1. Good Upper Cuts
    2. Good body shots
    3. Decent at cutting off the ring
    4. Solid 12 round pressure

  10. Mental exhaustion from not knowing if he'll ever fight again.

Mosley had him in clinches where they were wrestling at times, I dont think Pacqiuao can do that because he aint big enough.

I guess so. it is true, that it has been brought up on this board - although i would say, mostly by haters of Pac trying to discredit the win before it even happens.

To me, talking about a career welterweight being drained at 151 doesn't really make sense unless someone has an agenda. Especially considering how much his opponent has moved UP in weight recently.

To answer your question though, I think the biggest thing Margo hs going for him, aside from usually a very good workrate, is the chip he is likely to have on his shoulder.

He knows this is his chance for public redemption. He'll be as focused ad ready as he has ever been for a fight. He's been backed into a corner with all the handwrap allegations lately, basically vilified, and he's gonna come out like a wounded animal I think.

marg bitched recently in an interview about how they tried to lower the catchweight to 149, but he only agreed to 150. marg knows himself best, so the dehydration is definitely bothering him.

While that's definately true, he's more than likely going to be hit more frequently than he ever has before, and that has a tendency to take effect as well....unless Margarito is able to wear Pacquiao down himself :think
