Justin Rommell Pauldo vs. Miguel Ángel Madueño Angulo, 10 rounds @ lightweight

 

Of course it's the WBA North American continental lightweight title, which might not be in the organization's top 15 most prestigious awards, so who knows how lax they feel like being on the rules.

 

Round 1

Madueño pressuring behind a pawing jab, shooting long right hands at the beard of Pauldo. Good pull-counters by Pauldo while circling away, matching Madueño step for step to preserve distance. Good counter 1-2 down the pipe by Pauldo, holding after landing with Madueño thrashing in his grip resulting in some awkward violent tie-ups. Madueño tries jabbing the belt line and then swatting up top with a left hook at long range. Pauldo swerves away from it, boomerangs in and grabs Madueño around the waist.

...was that a dig? Other than cheap alliteration, what was the point of saying that?

 

Round 2

Madueño is walking onto counter jabs. Pauldo boxing well on the backfoot, keeping up goalposts to defend against head shots and using his legs and sucked-in abs to avoid most of the pursuant Madueño's body work. Late in the round Madueño clips him with a short overhand right in the pocket as they are trading, and then a left hook on the liver, Pauldo felt that, scrambling away. Madueño chases him until the bell.

Round 3

Madueño mauling, Pauldo patient - almost to a fault. Pattern from the first two rounds holding firm. Pauldo with some good pinball-launcher straight right counters but too infrequent, not really keeping a steady jab on Madueño as he marches in. Madueño very sloppy with his approach upstairs, but bowling in some huge body shots as he sells out and swoops in. Pauldo may have opened a cut on Madueño's eye with a slingshot counter right.
