Justis Huni is just excellent

Was the Clarke performance his best work? No. However, people are going overboard saying how close it was. I only gave Clarke one round, maybe three at most if you’re being generous (Haye really has the first case of toe related CTE). It’s also important to add that Clarke came in in the best shape of his career and actually came to win, unlike a lot of fighters on the main event card. People are also greatly exaggerating how badly Huni was hurt in round 4, and they’re ignoring context. This was his second-longest layoff, coming after the loss of his long-time trainer and a bad KO defeat. His longest layoff was before the Tabiti fight, an IBF cruiserweight challenger, where he showed similar bad habits like not using his feet and standing near the ropes to trade. Even then, he still clearly won that fight.

But with all that said, just look at his career. He has never fought anyone with a losing record, he’s always shown incredible heart (watch the Lerena fight), fast hands, and he has a real boxing IQ. The issue is his chin, which makes it hard to see him as a long term champion, but he can definitely pick up a belt. I want to see him next with Anderson, Parker, Riakporhe, or the winner of Pero vs Miller; all would be good fights.

 

100000000000000%, I’m not as high on Wardley as most people, but he has elite warrior instinct. If you watch the fight, Huni coming forward like that was his only real mistake up to that 10th round. That said, his chin is definitely a weak point. Everyone has power at heavyweight, so he just needs to keep getting sharper and more disciplined.

 

Big fan of Huni, but that stoppage was warranted.

 

I don't think he needs KO power, just respectable power like Bivol at light heavy. Chin is a bit of a problem, though .

Fair points. However, he fought Lerena when he was only 8–0, and fought Clarke after getting brutally KO’d and dealing with a major setback when his long time trainer died. Also, a 10–4 scorecard for the Clarke fight is insane, and even 3 rounds for Clarke feels like a big stretch. Boring? Sure. He’s not the biggest puncher, but for me he has tons of heart, throws quick shots, and is slick. The Wardley fight is him at his best so far, but I think he will definitely surpass the level he showed there in the future.
