Kevin Lerena is certainly a top 50 H/W. Andrew Tabiti currently isn't rated but I reckon was top 50 when Huni faced him. Probably top 30. Huni faced both of these guys on the road, something most H/W prospects wouldn't do. Most usually hide behind the protection of a home country commission. I don't think Guido has the credentials to foot it with Huni. Ajagba has the power to unhinge anyone from their senses but if he doesn't, he isn't beating Huni. I think Huni is getting a bum rap from people who have only ever watched a "couple of fights".
I'll admit I've only see a few of his fights. What I saw impressed me but also concerned me. He clearly has some talent, good hand speed, decent enough power so it seems, at least at this level, he moves his head, his punch variety is nice, as is his shot selection and he knows how to counter. I'm more impressed by his offence after 10 fights than I was of Parker. But what is concerning is he can be hit. He has an aggressive style from what I have seen and he got clipped and hurt vs Lerena. So there's some vulnerability there perhaps. But he is young and still developing, I could see him being a contender if his chin isn't glass and he continues to improve. I'm more impressed by Huni than I ever was of guys like Makhmudov, Ajagba, Kownacki, Miller, Dubois or Anderson at this stage of their careers or for some of them even now.
I don't mind people criticizing our fighters. It's a bit much when they resort to complete fiction to do it.
Lerena was clearly top 30 opponent. And Huni is better than Ajagba in everything besides of power. Much, much quicker, far more technically sound, more versatile, has higher ring IQ. Ajagba already has reached his ceiling which is being borderline top 20 HW, fringe contender. I'm pretty sure ANYBODY in top 10 would beat him easily. Huni, on the other hand, might become a genuine top 10 HW in a couple of years
Even though Huni lacks power I think that his skillset both offensively and defensively separates him from most other heavyweights. I think he is the fastest fighter in the heavyweight division I don't see many guys outboxing him especially as he gains more experience. If he is to lose anytime soon it would be from getting caught with a big punch and at heavyweight that is a risk in every fight.
Also, people carrying on because Lerena rocked Huni late on. So what? That happens in boxing. It’s a disingenuous criticism especially given those people don’t acknowledge that Huni boxed Lerena’s ears off for most of that fight.
Exactly a heavyweight got rocked "OMG" haha that will happen when guys weighing upwards of 100KG are throwing punches at each other.
Yeah it's heavyweight and as Lerena showed vs Dubois if he catches you right he can hurt you. Hell Huni not getting dropped suggests he has a better chin than Dubois and Dubois is now fighting at the top level in his next fight. Now if Huni gets rocked or dropped in further fights before moving up to the higher level guys then yes it will suggest his chin isn't great but it's too early to say for sure he has a glass chin. I think right now it's more a defensive issue, he simply was overly aggressive and got greedy and got caught. Experience may temper that over eagerness in time and make him a tougher fighter to catch clean.
