All those fighters though - Taylor, Pavlik, Powell, Thompson to a degree - were pretty inexperienced at the time. And those were all years ago. Brewer scraped his way through the Contender also, got a couple of decisions with Bravo and Forbes that could of gone either way. Forbes would beat Brewer now, he's improved since the Contender. I think Bundrage has aswell. A testament to this is his win over Ouma, who I don't believe is 'completely' shot. He can blow hot and cold as we know, he turned up on the night not quite right, but K-9 put in a good performance and beat him. As you say, common opponents is not a good analysis. Judah stopped Spinks, whereas Taylor, the heavier man, could only scrape a pretty unimpressive decision. Does that mean Judah would beat Taylor? Of course not.
I can't say that fight made me a Pavlik fan, but it did make me say, "Hey, this Pavlik kid might be pretty good." I started liking Pavlik more after I heard some of his interviews and read a little more about him, ironically after he beat Miranda and Taylor, two other fighters I like. Kelly seems like a good kid and I like the way he represents his hometown.
The version of Brewer that made easy work of Thompson would beat K-9 easily, but ya, that was a while back. I have no idea if that version can even be summoned. Brewer went through the contender series while recovering from rotor cuff surgery. It was pysically impossible for him to double up on the jab. He was fighting almost one handed. A healthy, well trained Brewer is a different fighter from the one who fights injured, takes fights on short notice, and fights with no training time. I'd love to see the best possible version show up for this fight with K-9. A win might get him one more good pay day, and I think he deserves that.
Hey you're more than welcome to like/cheer on/hype up whomever you want man, I'm just saying we got Klit/Peter, Tarver/Dawson, Hopkins/Pav, Jones/Calz and Bute/Andrade all on the horizon and I see a thread more or less hyping up Grady flippin Brewer. I wasn't ready for that sort of madness I think K-9's chin is being overrated in this thread...noone has brought up the china-ness of it.
Well -- Grady's chin ain't exactly titanium:bart As far as the big fights coming up -- it just seems like we've all said all there is to say about those. I get bored with the same thing EVERYDAY.
Grady Brewer wasn't knocked down 3 times with one punch like K9 was against Bundridge. I hope they go all out in an all or nothing sort of scrap. Weak chins with decent power=fun for the whole family.
I'm not an elitist type of boxing fan. I follow numerous boxers who are not big names, because I am a boxing fan. I would imagine that Brewer, Bundrage, and their families think it's an important fight, and probably don't give a **** what you think. It's on the Bika/Manfredo undercard promoted by The Tournament of Contenders, so it will probably be on Fight Night on Versus, Thursday November 13th.
***gotry from yourself aside for a second, it would also help you to prepare for getting predicitions wrong as I think it could be a regular occurrence from now. Not with Hopkins though. Even I am leaning towards the Pavlik robbery, or perhaps even sneak it by a point legit.
