That was actually surprising to me, that they'd strip him so soon. The IBF does seem to be stricter on the matter, Wlad-Fury II seems like a big enough fight that an exception would be made.
No question, corruption and special treatment on display by WBC. Sulaiman must be put in a position to answer the hard questions, not pushover battered wife tactic employed by K2. They must cease all negotiations and request a purse bid. Duva did a smart thing and informed IBF she's not interested in negotiating with whoever..., boom now her fighter is getting a title shot.
The problem is that WBC said GGG has to be next.. And maybe they adhered to it. I'm just saying if it wasn't Golovkin agreeing to it then that would definitely have been bull****.
Disappointing. I know that K2 is chasing that breakthrough fight for GGG but if GBP aren't taking it now, why should they believe they will in September... or ever. Shoulda tried agreeing to a moderate CW (say 157), negotiated in good faith but refused to budge on a voluntary, then publicly outed the WBC if they refused to enforce. Not that it woulda done them much good, the moral high ground is nice but it doesn't pay the bills and GGG would be as far away from a big fight as ever.
two points i would like to reiterate to add is that first, boxing is a money making enterprise. they need to do whatever they can to extract most money. second, wbc and the alphabets have always been inconsistent with their rules lastly, hbo is the driver behind this. expect a ward/kovalev deal in writing for these two as well.
Then Canelo needs to drop the belt and let the real MW champion have it. When he is ready for Golovkin, he can fight him for all 4 belts (provided Golovkin is still at MW).
