K2/GPB Negotiating, Conference Call with WBC Prez Mauricio

WBC had issued an order for the winner to face Golovkin next.

"We are in communication with Golden Boy and K2, the representatives of both fighters. The week of Thanksgiving Day delayed things a bit, but everything is going well. The parties understand what the commitments are and the guidelines, and I'm confident they will make an agreement that will be released soon, but I feel that everything is on track and in accordance with regulations," said Sulaiman to ESPN Deportes.

"We are not policemen, we always intended to reach the best for the sport and the athletes. They're talking, I'm a witness. Tomorrow we will have a conference call to know the status."

"The opinion is the winner, or in this case Canelo because Cotto chose not to accept the rules. The winner, Canelo, is committed to face GGG. Golden Boy and K2 have been in talks even before the fight (Cotto-Canelo) and I'm waiting. I have always given them the freedom to negotiate and they will notify us tomorrow (Friday) on the status of their progress and that we will know the result."


I figured they were negotiating due to how quite they were being. I don't expect to hear the result today or tomorrow. If they are trying to agree to the fight then things will continue to be kept on the DL. But everything sounds good so far. I hope GGG doesn't accept a step aside, but I'm pretty sure Golovkin doesn't wants to wait anymore.

 

Lance Pugmire said a new deadline was established Dec 11and that one side said they're trying to work out a deal to where the fight doesn't happen immediately ( probably oscars side lol).

 

Because they're negotiating. You can't come to an agreement/finish fight negotiations in two weeks. WBC sees they're negotiating, so he's extending their talks. There'd be no extension if GPB flat out refused to talk because they'd be stripped. But since they are talking, they're being given more time to negotiate. Nothing bad about that.

 

I could seriously rant over this whole WBC/Canelo/GGG topic for days
