Kabayel is looking pretty decent out of the current crop of heavyweight boxers and I wonder how would you rate him compared to a prime Povetkin. I personally don’t really see him as being any better. What do you all think?
The first time I saw Kabayel he was working as a seamstress at Lake Gitche Gumee, sewing Duran Duran's stage costumes. Not the band Duran Duran but a better group of two brothers whose last names were Duran, no relation to the fighter. But it's little wonder Kabayel was inspired by the name alone to become a boxer. I recall asking him if he hit as good as he sewed. He looked at me quizzically and Germanly, as if I were trying to pick up on him. "Whoa, cowboy, I don't ride my horse on that ranch." I says to him. He seemed to relax just a little bit, as though he'd worried I might try to ride him bareback all over the garment factory. That is when I took off my ultra-rare vicuña smoking jacket, by Tom Ford and Daniel Hanson, set it neatly folded on the table next to him. I could feel the legs of his metal chair start to scrape along the concrete floor of the facility. He was backing up like I was about to grab him by the back of the hair and sick ole Cujo on his bung-end, seven ways to Sunday and twice on Monday. God help me, I wanted to, but just the menacing appearance of wanting to made my heart quicken and my soul empathy-stricken. I knew that I was scaring this young seamstress with the dumb culturally German facial expressions. "Look, young man, I have holes too. ...Holes in my smoking jacket. Sew them for me. I will give you a year's salary if you do it right away (this was worth roughly 30 American dollars at the time). But if you do not take my offer, I have other things that I can give. And they're worth so much more to us, this day." Oh, I'm not going to say that I sexually intimidated a young but still adult athlete into sewing my jacket for me for 30 dollars, but what I will say is this: Dude beat the crap out of me and stole my jacket. I didn't smoke but I still really loved that jacket. Word has it that he sold the article of clothing to purchase a heavy bag. Does that mean I am partly responsible for his success? I think so. The lawsuit will demonstrate that very clearly and I will quite likely buy this forum and bring back several alts. To answer your question, I think he wins this one.
Quite different fighters... Pov at his best would probably have been better, and head to head I suspect he'd have won. Kabayel still has plenty to prove - I hope he does, or at least tries.
Kabayel is too stationary for only being 6'3. Povetkin moves too much and uses angles and feints to land plenty of solid combinations. Povetkin TKO9.
Kabayel has like 3 wins over contenders (Sanchez, Zhang, Chisora) Povetkin has Chagaev Whyte Chambers Byrd Huck Povetkin has the better wins, but his notable win column isn’t much larger.
Kabayel is very vulnerable to an uppercut personally, and Povetkin's combos leading to his uppercut is a stylistic devil for Kabayel.
I think Povetkin would thrive on an inside war. And I gree that his uppercut was lethal. Lest we forget: This content is protected
Don't know, would be a very interesting fight. The only other fighters who exclusively beat Chisora in a dominant or clear fashion are Fury, Vitali, Haye, Usyk and Kabayel. Everyone else had at least one controversial fight, or lost. So Kabayel is in very strong company. The best fighter Povetkin beat was Whyte, who was the same level as Chisora, but Povetkin was almost 41 which made it more impressive. Kabayel seems to have ducked a post-Jennings Joyce, which suggests he would struggle with a durable and relentless pressure fighter. Povetkin was kept away from a hard-hitting counter puncher in Ortiz. The manner Kabayel dispatched Makhmudov, Sanchez and Zhang was impressive. He's undefeated, whereas Povetkin lost to Wlad and Joshua (albeit with caveats). But Kabayel went 6+ years without fighting anyone credible, which is bizarre. We need to see more, Kabayel's ceiling is less clear but he's the more versatile boxer. I suspect prime Povetkin is more offensively dangerous for most styles though.
Bad Style matchup for kabayel I think. But even prime klitschko had to fight his ugliest and most unfair fight by far in order to control povetkin. Prime povetkin is pretty pretty good.
