Khan was brought up poorly. He fought some okay opponents but he never faced a range of styles except for Gomez, who was old. He fought too many featherfists that were tidy but that were smaller and easily outboxed, basically no threat. Then they chucked him in with Prescott who is crude, but a long armed banger. Without even researching the guy. That was horrible. Hopefully they don't make the same mistake at world class. He's fought Kotelnik, easiest strap available, okay now his mandatory is Salita another guy with little punching power. But after that they need to at least face a boxer puncher with some semblance of power. Or just somebody with power. We'll see how much he's truely developed.
I want to like Khan but to be honest im looking forward to the next time he's clinically despatched. Calzaghe v Froch would just be a complete 1 sided whooping, a late stoppage after the amount of punishment Froch took would be on the cards, if not it'd be a 10-2 11-1 in rounds.
Agreed, about that score. Stoppage is possible if Froch gets busted up, they might pull him out or something but I'd learn towards cards because they'd figure Froch always has punching power to give him a chance. The difference in skill and athleticism is way too much.
if calzaghe came out of retirement now he'd still beat froch and he'd make it look easy, i think froch should invite calzaghe to a public sparring session calzaghe would slap his nose off.
I'm surprised he packed it in and didnt go for Froch to be honest, it'd be a decent pay day in an easy fight. He could have got Froch to Wales aswell. I guess he really just couldnt be arsed anymore and the injuries etc, I suppose it all takes its toll physically and mentally.
I remember bing really excited by Froch-Pascal before that fight, and though it was quite entertaining, watching that made me physically laugh when somebody asked how I thought Froch would do against Calzaghe. Watching the Taylor and Dirrell fights after that just reaffirms my belief tenfold.
What would have been the point? If he dominates Froch, who would have cared? Froch was a complete nobody and Calzaghe was one of the best names in the game.
I agree, he was just on about finishing in Wales though so im surprised he didnt take a decent pay day and whoop an English fella. It would have shut Froch up, but then if you fought everyone who ever slagged you off you'd be fighting till you died I suppose.
you know this salita guy is about the same size as khan probrably has the same reach by the looks of it remember what happened last time khan faced some1 he didnt enjoy size advantage over, i dont think this is going to be a walk in the park like so many claim, salita's hungry
Calzaghe was one of the biggest names in boxing :rofl Did you watch the Mayweather interview the other day ? Floyd didn't even know his name. Couldn't fill MSG for a fight with a guy who is a 'lock-in' for the HOF either
Calzaghe was a huge name in boxing at the time Froch was picking up the WBC belt. Calzaghe was and still is one of the most hotly debated fighters right across the board and was top 3/4 P4P. Calzaghe can sell out the Millenium Stadium, and all his fights at this point were covered by HBO. It's more of a slight on Hopkins if he can't sell out the MSG in his own country.
Sure Dan, he was a nobody and wasn't rated by anyone as one of the very best few boxers in the world at the time. He wasn't being called out by Froch, Kessler or Bernard Hopkins weren't clamouring for a rematch, Roy Jones wasn't calling him out, Chad Dawson didn't want to fight him, James Toney wasn't talking trash about him... I could go on and on...
TFFP - Hopkins fight was in Vegas was it not ? I'm talking the jones fight :good I'll bet you when Hopkins/Jones rematch (if it materialises) that they sell out which ever arena they have it at. The fact Calzaghe couldn't sell out a fight in either of his two fights across the Atlantic speaks volumes about his 'worldwide recognition' considering both fights were against 2 of the biggest names in the modern era of the sport. Hatton could fight Marquez next and if it happens to be in Vegas (Not likely) i bet you'd he'd sell out. Calzaghe was one of the top boxers around 2 years ago but he was MOST DEFINITELY NOT ONE OF THE BIGGEST NAMES MATE :good
