Rees cant punch and wins fights by wearing oponents down or on points. Kahn wins this one easily. Rees seems like a nice chap though...
Agreed:good Pac literally destroyed Diaz as a force at LW. The ref should have stopped it earlier. When a fighter becomes shop-worn one of the first things to go (apart from reflexes) is punch resistance (look at RJJ and Morales in the modern game). David Diaz's main attribute is his punch resistance, and I don't think it will ever be at the same level due to that beating last night.
Gavin Rees? Big heart, nothing else. Khan would pound him into submission. In fact, I would pick an old Gomez to beat Rees. Dave Stewart? good boxer, very fast & skilful but his stamina & power are shocking. Stewart could cause Khan problems in the early rounds, but his lack of power would mean Khan would never be in serious bother. Khan KO's Rees early cos hes THAT poor, & Stewart would probably last into the later rounds due to a smart boxing brain, but same result. If this is what Khans being fed after the Gomez scare, its safe to say Warren is going to do a 'Hatton' with Khan, & wait & wait until he can get his hands on a washed up old champion like Tszyu before making a world title fight for the Bolton braggart. Until then its the Rees & Stewarts of this world. Both a step down from Limond & Gomez. & please, dont tell me Rees was a proper world champion, cos thats when things start getting deep.
Khan would beat either Stewart or Rees - the only domestic LW that gives him trouble is Thaxton. Thaxton then Romanov would be the next two opponents for Khan - if he got through those two then you could say he is about ready........ but until he faces a genuine puncher with stamina the jury will still be out.
Rees also fights at a very very slow pace. he is a very slow versain of Hatton. Khan will wipe the floor with him. Will this be on setanta or elsewhere???
From what I have seen of Rees (little) he does have certain similarities to Ricky Hatton, in that he is short and squat, and comes to have a real go. Shame he is very much lacking in every other department though!
I hate to admit it but i've underrated both Pac and Khan this year. Pac was sensational saturday... that was a gr8 performance.
Khan to beat Rees in the mid to late rounds. Dave Stewart would be a decent test but I havent seen enough of Stewart. If Khan fights and beats Rees in a better fashion than Kotelnik then he may get some credit from some of the cynics. He needs to fight someone though who will test his defence, although Rees can bang he's not busy enough to really test Khan IMO. Is Stewart a pressure fighter? I think that that is what Khan needs to face at this stage
