I agree, I don't think Holt became shot. I think it was just an awful matchup for him. For one, he doesn't let his hands go much at all which can be problematic against a hard charging opponent. For two, I don't think he was prepared and I don't know all of the details of this, but he may have had a lot on his mind as he had recently pled guilty to money laundering in New Jersey (on behalf of his trainer I believe).
To me judah lost that last fight and it wasnt that close. I got mbuza at +450 2 weeks ago and am happy with my bet. The line is now +225.
Zab's been training under Whitaker's guidance, for this camp. I'm anxious to see how much that has influenced his style, for the good.
I think Whitaker would be a DAMN FOOL if he tried to change anything that Zab does. Judah's Style and technique was NEVER the problem. His Speed, Footwork Movement and Power are ALL ELITE...PERIOD. Judah's Problem is Conditioning. He's not as fast, His punches don't have the same pop in the later rounds as opposed to the Early Rounds. In the Later rounds he retreats more, he holds more....all signs of Fatigue. I hope he takes advantage of the Opportunity to put his name back in the Equation of the 140lbs Division...because he definitely got a Gift. I had a Clear victory for Matthysse. Matthysse is Black Right?:-(
Right. I don't think Whitaker was trying to make any drastic changes...none needed really. But, not only does Zab have a fatigue issue, he has a bit of a confidence problem, when he gets taken into deeper waters. I think Whitaker's influence may help rejuvenate Zab, to some extent. We shall see just how much. It's an improvement over his dad, in any case. Perhaps, too little, too late, though. Yeah...Zab got a gift against Matthysse. But, it was a relatively close fight, IMO.
The closer this fight gets and the more I check out Mabuza I'm beginning to think we might see another classic example of breaking down Zab Judah and winning by late stoppage or by winning the 2nd half of the fight convincingly vs Zab. I was predicting Zab by UD but Mabuza is actually quite underated
I think Mabuza is gonna grind him down and stop him in the mid-late rounds. Lucas Mathysse fought the wrong fight against Zab, he didn't try to press him more in the early part of the fight which ended up costing him. Mabuza is super aggressive and has a good chin and will be all over Zab from the start. I was impressed with his body punching against Holt and I think he'll do the same thing and break down Zab with his body attack and volume punching.
Man Mabuza looks bigger than Judah and even though he doesn't have a defense like Clottey, Kaiser throws punches in bunches and the guys never stops coming forward too. He does lower his right every time he jabs so a left hook would be great vs this guy, but from what I've seen Mabuza is all wrong for Judah. Unless Judah brings his A game, this one is going to go down like Clottey-Judah. Does not look good.
Judah needs an early KO IMO... i am talking first 2/3 rounds otherwise he is going to be pushed hard. I don't get Judah, he got himself into ridiculous shape against Matthyse but then fought with absolutely 0 gameplan as usual. Doesn't he get tired of training and then fighting off instinct..
His gameplan was to "box". And he did stick to it perhaps a bit too well. It was perhaps excessively conservative.
Yea I agree Judah does have world class skills, but his conditioning and boxing brain isn't. He does have that win over Spinks and in the first fight he did come on to him late in the fight, but Spinks is a light puncher. Judah basically needs to clinch and pace himself, take something or mimic Floyd's style, take it easy the first rounds. He stays in front on Mabuza and fight's Mabuza's fight he's doomed. He still has the habit of moving straight back and needs to do more lateral movement or little sidesteps he seems to lose focus alot and doesn't follow the gameplan. He fights everyone the same way.
