I actually completely forgot about him, until his name popped up via google. He's fought once this year back in June and has had 5 fights since he won the title back in 2017! I completely forgot he was one of our world champions. Promotional wise he has been non existent on Sky, still waiting for a big fight or unification fight. He's not looked great in his last two fights either imo. Is there anything actually planned with him? I know he's had hand problems but not heard anything.
It was actually 2016 he won his title. I'm pretty sure it was Estrada that requested their fight be pushed back, so that was taken out his hands. If that fight went ahead as planned then he'd have had his 2 fights this year which is pretty standard for world title holders. I do hope he gets the Estrada fight next, he really is needing a big fight.
Aye he won his world title on the Joshua-Molina undercard and fought on the Joshua-Takam undercard as well I'm sure.
they should use him and a bunch of local fighters to do midlands cards. but with matchroom it seems they don't care if it's not PPV
Apparently Yafai vs Nietes was done for the Rungvisai/Estrada 2 undercard in April. Yafai got injured, again. Nietes then got ordered by the WBO to rematch Ioka, got pissed off and dropped the title, not been heard of since. IBF ordered Yafai vs Jiminez. Estrada signed with Matchroom, I suspect with a Yafai unification guaranteed. After the first Matchroom gimme fight for Estrada in August Hearn said the Estrada/Yafai fight was done for December. Estrada then has an injury, and the fight is currently postponed to the January Miami card.
