A fight that is often considered a bad decision. An old crusty fossil playing defense and waiting for counters against a stamina laden, awkward volume puncher who throws about three times as many punches over the course of the fight.

No, it's not Calzaghe vs Hopkins;).It's a bit better than that imo.

    I have.Plenty of times.

Albeit from fans and not boxing publications.

Not saying i necessarily agree.Watch and score it, it's a pretty good fight.

Kalambay. He took about till the fourth or fifth to really get going, then more or less swept the fight until taking his foot off the gas in the last round. Some close rounds because of the vast gap in workrate at times, but Collins was hitting gloves, arms, elbows or swiping at air 90% of the time.

Note Collins strategy of marching straight out from the opening bell and throwing a huge clubbing right:good. That's the way to start a fight.

Nice one, I'll get round to watching this one soon. Not seen it in a long, long time but I distantly remember thinking that Kalambay won quite clearly with Collins not looking good at all despite Kalambay being past it. I'll get back later......
Btw, thanks for uploading all this recent Kalambay stuff lora (especially as lots of people probably won't watch it). I'm going to have to get hold of more footage of Kalambay after I misplaced a load of old stuff that seems to included a few of his fights.

Anyone got any cards or opinions on this then.

i did not score it but i thought it was a sort of a clinic for Kalambay beginning in the 4th round liked you said. Collins looked good though.

that right uppercut of Kalambay is something else. a number of fighters are great with that punch up close but Kalambay throws it so effortlessly from all ranges. i think he hurt Collins with that punch once. someone should make a montage of his right uppercut because it is a beautiful punch. truly what i would call a "jack in the box" shot, much like Hopkins' counter cross

it's hard to believe he's 37 years old here. he still looks sharp and snappy with his punches and his defensive maneuvers are always impressive.

Yeah, Collins was staggered in the 7th.He landed some of his better punches of the fight early in the round, but had the play taken away from him with those uppercuts as he tried to capitalise.

Right then. I didn't score it but I'm in agreement with lora and kopejh in a nutshell. Kalambay started slowly but controlled the fight from the 4th onward with Stevie's workrate and determination making it a tad closer than it should have been at times. Collins was made to order for Kalambay even at that stage of the latter's career but Kalambay looked good nonetheless, especially for his age. Good win in my book. Oh, and all hail the counter-uppercut.

Lora, have you seen the Pyatt fight? It's one that I can't recall watching.

I have it(being able to find it is a different matter), though i've been mostly trying to put stuff up that hasn't been doing the rounds on the internet before.Pyatt kalambay has been all over torrent sites for years.

From memory, it's a sloppy ugly fight where Kalambay looks pretty much washed up offensively and very sluggish in general.Pyatt compensates for being an average talent by fighting at a high pace and more in the Hamsho\Vito\Collins mold than his usual stalking, load up on big left hooks approach(which got him shutout by JD Jackson).Maybe Pyatt by 2 or 3 points i'd say, but it must be nearly ten years since i watched it.I seem to remember whoever hte commentary team had doing a round by round card had it a draw.In fact though i half jokingly cmpared this fight to Hopkins Calzaghe, Pyatt vs Kalambay IS actually a lot more like it...minus legions of kalambay hardcore fans claiming he put on a masterful clinic of defense and clean effective punching.

Collins was his last stand really. He had looked on the way out against Ashton and Graham beforehand.
