Kali Meehan vs Evans Quinn (18-4-1) - 2nd Sept

Meehan came on very strong for the last 2 rounds.

It was very difficult for him to get any flow with the nutjob antics Evans was displaying.

Meehan did well for boxing out 12 rounds given his inactivity and his age.

I thought he looked very fit...did draw some big breaths but did chase and punch when he could get Evans measure.

Big improvement on Meehans last fight.

 

Evans display last night won no one over................at times he looked simialr to Oliver McCall when he broke down in the rematch with Lewis. Even Ash looked lost for words. But I bet he can move on the dance floor.

 

man, from the sounds of it, Im dissapointed in Evans performance and I didnt even see it

 

michael jackson would have been the only one impressed by that performance.

i like you Ash.you seem to find a positive in everything.Quinns performance besides round 5 was bizzare,weird and puzzling.he appears to be very,very strange.

 

Mate, in the US these blokes a tuppence a dozen. They don't like getting hit so they won't engage. They spoon around the ring thinking everyone will believe they are so good they can win at will, but they don't
I was ****en "elephants trunk" & still twigged that he wouldn't aim up.

You watch his sparring. Get Alex to drop a couple on him & watch the rap dance take over.
If I'm wrong, he's got a chance here, but tell him we want fighters not ****en fan dancers.

when was evans last fight? his evasive skills & speed did look impressive., he seemed to be holding back something judging by how he looked when he opened up.

 

A quick note on my thoughts. I've thought about how to address this all day long and I certainly don't wish to offer excuses. I haven't watched a replay of the fight yet, but I'm certainly a glass "half full" kind of guy.

His preparation was far from ideal, training himself unti he got here. His contract with a certain electric haired promoter in the US had expired, leaving him without funds to feed himself or put a roof over his head, until that issue was addressed. No money also means no sparring in the States.

So he definitely had concerns about lasting a distance he'd not fought over. His antics were an attempt to frustrate Meehan into lunging in and also as a way to not have to fight 3 minutes of the full round.

His corner were happy with it through 6 rounds, hoping he'd come home strong. Unfortunately this didn't happen at all. He's not normally a showboater to that degree, although he does fight with his hands down. We've chatted about the fight and it's been explained that he simply wasn't busy enough. He accepts this and agrees with it. He's also been told his arse will be sitting down between rounds until his corner is finished.

Not sure if it was on TV or not, but he chucked up in the corner after the end of the 2nd and the end of the 8th. Not sure whether due to illness or lack of fitness. I'd have certainly thought the latter, but he is not in a great way right now.

For mine the positives are his defensive skills and when he did actually his hands go. I honestly believe that with proper preparation, which he'll get sparring Leapai etc, you'll see a completely different fighter.

Anyway, just my thoughts boys. Disappointed, but there's always tomorrow.

 

Everyones got a violin to play,all meehan can do is chalk it up to another 12rnds in the bank and for such a layoff its probably done some good.Quinn gave what he had from what im hearing,and meehans management got him his victory,we'll see what the next step is.

 

No violins here, just don't judge him until he's had time to prepare, that's all I'm saying.

I hope so, the difference between what I saw the other night compared to what i've seen of him on youtube was weird to say the least. Maybe the fact they had sparred alot had an effect on his effort as well...
