I guess Kali Meehan is going to take on Jeremy Bates in Germany on the undercard of Valuev-Liakhovich. What the crap?! Talk about a step down. Meehan does us a favor by knocking out Touch of ****, and now what's this, a tune up? He should be moving forward, take on Shannon Briggs or get a rematch from Rahman. Very disappointed in you, Meehan. :-(
Meehan collects garbage on the central coast of australia for a living. He has been offered decent cash(more then a whole years salary)for this bout and at his age he has happily accepted. Kali is usually the first to admit he aint a world beater and also doesnt have much time left to wait around hoping for Briggs/Rahman like fights. I know this is a step down for Kali after his impressive win but fathertime and also being a lesser name heavy doesnt allow him to pick and choose his fights like some of the big names.
I hear Garbo's get a pretty decent wage in Australia these days, i take it his getting well over 6 figures for the bates fight
How does Jeremy Bates keep getting these fights against top 50 HW's? It's like promoters pick him because they can rely on him bleeding all over the place and getting knocked out before round 2. He's fought Golota, Holyfield, Solis, and Ray Austin during the last 2 years or so.
What happened to the kid from Croacia? did he chickened out or did Meehan? They should match Meehan up with Pianeta, that would be a nice bout.
Maybe Meehan has tried and can't get any bigger names right away, and wants to stay busy to keep sharp. Nothing wrong with that, especially seeing as how Meehan is getting up there and don't have alot of time to waste.
I never thought Meehan to have the KO shot that he apparently took TOS out with, but with heavyweights, anything can happen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pxb1Efdzhcs Don't look away, as it happens about 15 seconds into this clip.
It is something else. He's the only Pro boxer I've ever really heard of from West Virginia. When he was first starting off he did seem to have some promise, there would be radio commercials and what not if he was fighting locally back in the day. The craziest thing, as you pointed out, if he was able to win at a upper level he'd have one of the best resumes in the business.
Hmmm...His original opponnent was undefeated prospect Mario Preksar....Meehan's last fight was vs williamson which wasnt a bad opponnent. I think a lot of people dont want to fight him because its high risk low reward for a good fighter who is out of the spotlight.
Maybe Meehan can fight Golota or someone like that after this fight. There has to be someone in the top 20 that will fight him. Surely not all top 20 fighters are fraidy cats.
