they fought under rules with "no standing 8 counts"... it was either he got bashed into unconsciousness or ref stopped it. fair stoppage IMO, Kirby was gone
Well, Micheal Kirby had a crack, didn't take a backward step and did something a lot of Aussie fighters are afraid to do, step up and test themselves against the odds on favourite. Fair stoppage, Kirby may have gotten out of there and recovered, but that was highly unlikely, Meehan's still a force to be reckoned with and Kirby will live to fight another day, learning from this fight.
I thought it was great listenin' to Kirby speak last night...before and after he fought..sounds like a great bloke...now i love the kunt!:good
Now I love the kunt too, Darkhorse He came to Moorabin gym a couple of Mondays ago to do some work with Big Scotty Belshaw, it was a last minute thing and I didn't go to training because it was a public holiday and I was just getting over the flu. I'm kicking myself for missing it. Whilst Kali Meehan is clearly still a world class force, we do have a reasonable pool of local heavies that are pretty even and very entertaining.
I know Kirby was gone...but to me he copped a big punch in the back of the head at the end of the combo....does anybody think the ref should have jumped in and sent Kali to the corner with a warning and given Kirby a moment to recover? The result would have been the same and Kirby would have got tagged more and hurt but a clean shot to the back of the head doesn't help anybody
I saw that too, but I don't think it had any effect on him. The second uppercut finished him I reckon, his head snapped back so far the poor **** must have whiplash today.
kirby was being hit and turned his head a bit hard for Kali to just stop punching when he is in the middle of an assault. also i like mcullen as a commentator but after the fight what was he on about that the ref should have stepped in to give kirby a chance and then keep the fight going. No standing 8 if the ref hadn't of stopped it big damage to kirby
They probably forgot about the standing 8, as most of us did. Last night I also thought the ref could have given him the count, but I then saw this morning that there was no count allowed and it made sense. Even with a count, he would have been toast anyway. Different class of fighter.
Sox You or i sitting home can make that mistake the guys commenataing should not. As i said i think Chris is a great commentator but have to post it as i see it
What for mate? I don't care if I suck eggs at tipping :deal I almost came last in the tipping comp just gone
