No--I wasn't calling him dirty, he wasn't. I was alluding to that Coetzee/Schutte fight. Did you ever see it? those guys actually exchange kicks and knees. It has to be the dirtiest fight I've ever seen and how there was not a dq is or was incredible. for all 12 rounds and neither guy was going to let the other do anything without retaliation.
Zad, I never saw the Knoetzee - Schutte bout. I guess, with two 'big lugs' like that in the ring,,,,,,,it wasn't going to be pretty...
Knoetze had blown out Schutte with a picture perfect left hook in the 2nd round. Coetzee and Schutte fought twice, it was the rematch. 12 rounds. There are parts of the fight where you think you are watching a movie. They take turns kicking each other in the shins. Throwing knees at each other on the inside. And landing them. But highly competitive, if you will. Neither guy was going to let the other get away with anything and retaliated immediately. Either guy conceding a thing. Here's a scenario you maybe could imagine and it could possibly end in a dq as well. but highly competitive at the same time with neither guy conceding. Holmes--Bowe. How do you think Riddick reacts to getting thumbed? How do you think Larry reacts to getting hit low or with rabbit punches or after the bell? Can you picture a scenario where neither looks to the ref and both guys do something back immediately in a nanosecond because of their competitive nature? And it goes on and on and both look for immediate payback. Perhaps that is a decent analogy, can you picture that kind of thing happening?
I would love to track those fights down. Not only those, but Knoetze fights too. Man, those were some great days...
Coetzee's hand troubles actually started in the Schutte fights. He broke both his hands on Mike's hard head. That's why I laugh when someone like Vitali quits with an injured shoulder. Poor baby. Coetzee broke both his hands and continued fighting.
Just put a bid in for this: http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/6198...Gerrie_Coetzee_programme_25_October_1980.html Wish me luck.

Same sentiments media always says about heavyweight punchers. The trouble is what level they drop down to once they get licked. And the same guys comparing fighter A to the alltime greats sure jumps off the bandwagon quick. Funny sport when hindsight is used and there is no division worse than the heavies at getting the up and comers derailed via numerous turns in the road. What a tightrope act.
