Hell something is wrong with Wikipedia. Take a look, @Saintpat: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kallie_Knoetze Count the number of KOs in the 10th.
I read in a Boxing magazine at that time that South Africans paid Bobick $300K, which was a really good payday at that time. To me Knoetze showed little skill, he just seemed to be a real tough guy with a big right hand. Never understood why Eddie Futch turned Bobick into such a plodder. Bobick seemed to much better movement in the amateurs and much quicker hands. As a pro opponents of Bobick seemingly could not miss hitting him with a right hand. With that in mind Ron Lyle KOed Bobick twice in the amateurs in 1970 and 1971. I think you to take in consideration that Bobick was 20 years old Lyle was 29, so Lyle was a full grown man, while Bobick's body was still maturing. Though as they say "styles make fights", Lyle likely would have always KOed Bobick.
The proper term is pornstache. Kallie had a very admirable growth of hair on his lip, but Boston Tom McMustache himself would just chuckle and say the fighters in his day could fight better and grow better mustaches too.
Well, I was looking at wikipedia's record for Knoetze which has one mistake after another on it. Check it real quick my friend.
Boxrec is your friend. Why anyone would trust Wikipedia I’ll never know. Any random person can go in and edit in false information.
Well, I'm often on wikipedia to read the bio part, and sometimes look at the record. Usually wikipedia's are pretty close to boxrec's, but this is by far the worst mistake I've ever seen.
Concerning Bobick I think you're right,, he never seemed to improve as a professional fighter over his amateur days and plodding forward in the 1970's was a recipe for disaster
I do believe the WBA HAD KNOETZE AT NUMBER #1 , HE WAS LIKE A WILD HORSE AND THREW THAT CRAZY RIGHT LIKE DENNY McLAIN, BUT HE GOT TAMED BIG TIME BY "BIG" JOHN TATE.
wow $300,00 grand for Bobick to fight Knoetze wow, well that explains alot at the time! I would become an astronaut for $300 Grand good info as usual Curtis.
my friend Mike Nixon went over there and ko'd #3 ranked Gert Steyn, wonder what he got $$ UPDATE: Talked to him last nite, $10 Grand.
