Well said. That ko over a guy like Schutte was something. 1 punch. I thought the guy had a chin to absorb a Shavers shot and that would've been a good fight, come to think of it. The big fight for Knoetze would've been that postponed Frazier bout. The Frazier that later showed up against Cummings would've been in for a very tough night. And the bout would've taken place in America and that visa problem of Knoetze gets resolved, in all likelyhood. But a 1978 ko over a Frazier skyrockets his career and as his options increase, perhaps things turn out better.
Coincidentally, the Box Rec site has an RIP for Mike "The Tank" Schutte. Apparently he died yesterday.
Here's some quality Kallie footage from "Bomber" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGbVgohq0mE I wouldn't want to be hit by him.
Coetzee didn't really make waves in the US until his upset KO of Spinks, whereas Koetzee had garnered some attention for his KO of Bobick.
I remember reading that Knoetze saying that Gerrie was incredibly fast and skillful. Also how he bottled it against John Tate. Here“s Coetzee-Knoetze VII (1st six fights were as amateur, going 3-3): This content is protected
