How? He couldn't beat and was put down by the truly awful Ray Austin. His best win is a chronic asthma suffering Briggs who weighed his highest ever at nearly 270 pounds. Sultan threw about 10 punches a round in fights. He was soft. He didn't even try to become HW champion against Wlad Mildenburger was far more active , was a better in fighter , moved quicker , had had more dog in him.
Here's Karl Mildenberger against: * Billy Walker (HLTS - excellent quality) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxD7PZPV99U * Amos Lincoln (HLTS - fair quality) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJyJ8kyvqpY * Oscar Bonavena (full fight) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk9c0dolW6A * Oscar Bonavena (HLTS - excellent quality) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccxPSbk49Tc * Antonio Inoki (boxer-wrestler match) Yes, the same Inoki who fought Ali. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bru6BvbvmSU
Perhaps. Mildenberg was a decent technician with some speed. He fought in a time with few highly rated South paws. As such he could out box lots of opponents his his size. His main drawback was he just did not hit hard enough to get the respect of larger punchers, or have the chin to take their punches. Mildenberg did win a few rounds vs. Ali, and forced Ali to change tactics as his usual come to me style wasn't working! Ali was in his absolute prime ( 1966 ) when the fight happened, and I think Mildenberg exposed some of Ali's flaws during the process in defeat. Would Karl Mildenberg be in the top ten today at heavyweight? Not likely, but he could be one of the champions at cruiser with favorable timing.
Who told you this? Mildenberg was the better and deserved to beat Folley. Please produce the sources you speak of.
Sultan better defence, better footwork, harder puncher, better chin, better fundamentals, Ray Austin? **** Richardson!
His chin was glass and his mental make-up was fragile. He was happy to lose 12 to nothing without even trying in his title fight against Wlad. Mildenbuger did a lot better against the GOAT in his prime. That tells you all you need to know.
Dino, Once again you're embarrassing. Ibragimov had a very good chin. He was never stopped as an amateur or pro. How can you say his chin was glass. Face Palm:deal Ibragimov KO's Mildenberg. Mildenberg would not win a round vs Wlad. Wlad would stop him much sooner than Ali did.
"Veteran Zora Folley gave young Karl Mildenberger a boxing lesson Friday night but the judges evened it up and called it a draw - a verdict that stunned most of the 12,000 fans that jammed the Messehalle here to watch the two highly ranked heavyweights in what was billed as an elimination match. Folley carved out cuts under Mildenberger's eyes and repeatedly scored with solid left jabs and straight right hands over the southpaw efforts of the German challenger. By the end of the 7th round Mildenberger had cuts under both eyes while Folley bled from the nose as a result of Mildenberger's left. Referee Otto Nispel took it upon himself to stop the fight time and again to warn Folley on butting and in the 8th round Nispel stopped the fight while he took Mildenberger to his corner and wiped the blood off his face so a doctor could come to the ringside and examine the cuts. Mildenberger, although clearly outclassed, never stopped trying and absorbed a tremendous amount of punishment from the American. He was still trying gamely in the 9th and 10th while Folley was content to coast and that was all the judges seemingly needed." -European Stars & Stripes Unofficial Stars & Stripes scorecard - 7-2-1 Folley NB MILDENBERGER
Daniels lost a one-sided decision in the second Williams fight , being dropped in the first round. I can't see how you gave Daniels a 10 -8 opening round in his first fight with Williams, he came alive in the last few moments but never floored Williams .
Maybe a slight bit of hyperbole there, Bro. He was a decent fighter who had the best night of his life against a guy who fought TWO southpaws in 61 fights, but the Bonavena fight was more representative of his level. One thing about him, he's still alive and going strong, probably will outlive all of Ali's opponents, even Holmes and Berbick.
Two things that stick in my mind about Richardson are the mini riot after the Brian London fight, and getting KO'd by Henry Cooper with a shot on the break...
Sultan has more power and much better chin,we know this because he took SOME not many of Wlads right hands..Mildenberger was dropped twice by ali and floored by the much weaker and leser fighters before that,he also cut easily. They are basically the same style however put mildenberger in the ring with Wlad and its over before the first round in all likely hood, put Ibragimov in with Ali and Ali is going to have a serious problem,if the same ali shows up of 67. To his credit he was abler to make ali struggle with a cut eye half way through,he would never do that with Wlad. the thing that made Wlad cautious was Ibragimovs power counter left,as stated Mildenberger less fast and power and chinned, the fight would be a huge mismatch for the 190 pound German in comparison to what Ibragimov could do.
Thats not saying much. His record is absolute rubbish. It rates a 4/10. There's not one note worthy win on there. He dropped his acorns against Wlad , then walked away from the sport for good. 210 pound , fragile David Haye put in a far grater effort against Wlad. Why are we even talking about this Barney Rubble looking mofo:huh Brian Neilson has a better resume. But he lost to Mike Tyson so he can't be any good:roll: Yet he has better wins on his record and fought in a much better era. Deontay Wilder also has a better record than Iggy and he's regarded as a fraud. Shut Stevirne out who flattened Ray Austin but Iggy got flattened by Ray Austin:tired This guy quivered up as soon as he felt the wind of a boxing glove pass his face. He's best left forgotten like most of the HWs of the 2004 -2014 era- The worst in history.
Interesting. I have never heard of the Stars and Stripes, but its sounds very American, so perhaps there was some bias fighting a German based fighter? I see Klompton also replied. I'll keep an open mind on this one if the verdict was fair or not. If someone has the fight on video, feel free to comment.
Without video footage it means nothing really! In those days they were very biased on the fighters they WANTED to win. What I find amusing the Mildenberger detractors here are the same ones who put Ali on a god like pedestal, even though he made ali work in that fight, and with basically a blinded eye which had a cut over it.
