This has to be a joke? So Froch is the Regular champion, Ward the Super champion and then Stanyslav Kashtanov V Jaime Barboza (Saturday, Ukraine) for the interim title. Thats 3 at 168 lbs. Its getting beyond ridiculous.
Worst is this isn't even a "new low" for them, because they have done this a couple of times already. :!: At one weight they even had 4 champs a while back.
Featherweight (if i am not mistaken). Chris john had the Super belt, Gamboa was the "unified champ" and two other guys were roaming around with WBA straps. Gamboa lost the IBF belt because according to him, Arum did not let him attend the second mandatory weigh-in. Mickey Garcia was believed to fight for the vacant belt back then. Remember when Wlad finally got the WBA belt from Haye? He was supposed to get it from Chagaev but did not. WBA is the probably the biggest disgrace in boxing right now. I am surprised that JBC has not done anything against them (last i heard, they only approved of the WBA and the WBC belts). *Oh and when Kessler entered the Super Six, a regular belt suddenly popped up. Froch now holds it.
Cheers for that lads. Never knew this had been done. Appalling. I appreciate these belts can assist careers, but we are talkig about prospects. This is down right bad for boxing. 3champs at 168 lbs? So does the winner get a shot at Ward or do they just mince about the division claiming to be a 'champion'?
Does Jaime Barboza have mates who work for the WBA or something? He's ranked #109 at SMW on Boxrec, has lost 4 of his last 6 - one of which was a 90-100 x3 shutout against Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez, he's 18-7 and has not beaten anyone even remotely significant, and yet this is his second shot at a WBA interim title, after being schooled by the very average Magee first time round. Joke.
Its all about the fees. WBA does not care about who fights for those belts. Every time someone fights for one of those belts, they get money. Creedy assholes who should be put to sleep.
