It was all good when HBO and company at Main Events thought they were picking on the smaller man to make Kovalev more legitimate and it back fired. I like Kovalev but as soon as he fought someone that was not afraid of him and someone that would not be afraid of his power and run he had no gameplan. Ward was coming forward on Kovalev the KO artist, AFTER , he was knocked down by him.
Ward told you that he was not leaving Las Vegas without Kovalev's belts on Nov 15th 2016. Por favor believe it!!

It was a close, competitive fight and warrants a rematch IMO. I had Ward winning it by the slightest of margins, but I could see why many people thought Sergey won. I just thought he gassed out in the later part of the fight (aside from round 10 I believe,) and allowed Ward to get back into the fight when Kova was comfortably ahead.

I read an interesting comment on the scene about this article: It makes you appreciate Mayweather Jr a lot more. When he was in a competitive or controversial match, he'd give the guy an immediate rematch. The moment Ward is in one, he's contemplating retirement.

I like Andre and think he's a terrific all around fighter, but if he doesn't end up rematching Kovalev than the only viable options for him are a match with Stevenson or just flat out retiring.

Dre was not afraid of Kovalev and he showed that to the world, Dre was not afraid of the power. He was cautious of it.

Nothing backfired at all because despite Dre comeback in the fight, he still clearly lost the fight and did not deserve the decision.
Tha truth is tha truth. Keep it a stack.

So many ways to read into this. Maybe he is afraid, although I doubt it because they already fought. I think it has more to do with Ward being a diva, having a "I'll do it when I feel like it" mentality. Unfortunately I can relate, that's how I know. When people try to tell me what to do, to dictate to me (especially if I don't like their attitude), I'll work on my own terms. If it means stalling then so be it. Someone wants something from me and they want it by tomorrow but they catch an attitude, fine, you get it in a week instead of one day.

Don't misinterpret like you ass clowns always do, I'm not justifying ward's actions or agreeing, just understanding and shedding light on what it possibly could be. I think this rematch should've been signed and dated already, promotions should've already begun.

Edit: I draw this conclusion from his "act like they lost" comments. They are probably approaching negotiations like they're the victors. I think a lot of people are too simple minded to think and always assume these guys are too afraid.

This was Manny Pacquiao. In 2009, you could argue that he was the bigger star, especially internationally. Pacquiao gave up first billing, first to the ring, first on the scale, and drug testing. If Floyd hadn't gone on the very public rants and accusations, it wouldn't have been a problem.

In terms of Ward, he's being a punk. He signed a rematch clause.

If he signed a rematch clause then there's nothing to talk about. What is Kathy going on about?

Oh, the rematch will happen soon enough, despite preening from Ward and Duva,

I had the first one by Kovalev by a point. Anybody prepared to be objective would not be astounded it could swing the other way, also.

The trouble is that; apart from both being extremely good boxers/fighters respectively neither Ward or Kovalev are particularly exciting or particularly controversial (outside the ring, to the casual fans) , which does not great PPV money make. Imagine the exposure/interest if Kovalev were to market himself like Briggs does and Ward conducted himself like Broner!

Wards promoters took a bath on his wage for the last fight. No wonder they are reluctant to immediately throw good money after bad and wait to whip this ****er up until people are hungry for it.

There's a rematch clause. They need to set up a date, book a venue, negotiate terms, no?

I'm curious what it is exactly they signed. Apparently it had no date or venue or anything else other than "I'll fight you next".... paraphrased, obviously.

Yes, but technically he hasn't dishonored the contract. The clause had no date, it seems.

Time to take him to court again maybe? I think he lost his last court fight with his old promoter didn't he? Regardless he wasted probably 3 years of his career while fighting that battle.

That's Duva's side of the story. Personally, I think she talks too much.
