Hate women's boxing does nothing for me at all. Gives me nightmares of days gone by when I had to endure Laila Ali's crap fights and even worse hype.
Saw somewhere bits December 15th. Friday night. Next gen card. Lol at any outrage over that. Will be there to push bellew v haye 2
This is pathetic it's basically virtue signalling. I'm not too fussed though, at least she had a quality scrap on Saturday. Thing is, would she even have the highest purse on the card? If not, then why let her main event?
Because they are trying to push her and get here over as a star. I would guess they are hoping she can tap into the female demographic and get more females buying tickets.
Yep. Can't honestly say I've watched many good women's fights personally but this at least gives better chance for good fights to happen if I'm being positive
Hearn will have her headlining at Croke Park next summer. If AJ leaves Matchroom, she's their biggest gate.
Indeed....she is the number 1 sports person in Ireland,a household name over there....apparently out of all Irelands Olympians she was far and away most popular!
Katie won something like 18 GOLD medals in major international competitions as an amateur. (Europeans, worlds, Olympics). No other Irish sportsperson has ever come even remotely close to her achievements. She is one of a kind....we will never see her likes again. She was almost single handedly responsible for getting women's boxing into the Olympics. A true pioneer and world leader in her field. In a world of overhyped media-created "superstars" KATIE is the real thing.
I don't even think Katie would do that well in terms of ticket sales and views in Ireland. She will obviously rake it in in terms of sponsorship and stuff like that though. She is hugely popular over here because she won the Olympics and is a bit of a trailblazer. But when it comes down to it, most people probably don't care much to see her fight.
Id say in the last Olympics the O'Donavan brothers were the most popular from Ireland. Katie did terribly but she gets tons of publicity
that last fight she had the opponent was pretty hot I thought? bit of a resting ***** face going on but you would
I thought her last fight was pretty entertaining to be fair, the issue I have with Katie is, what's her ultimate big fight? What's the one fight we really want to see? I have no idea as womens boxing has no stars other than Katie Taylor and Claressa Shields who are divisions apart.
just been looking on boxrec, the other main champ at her weight is some Belgian lady a norweigian a weight below who is unbeaten in 32 fights so she may step up? nobody of note at super lightweight then at welter Cecelia brakhaus who is a big name but I don't know if the women move around weight classes as much as the men do?
Also factor in the fact that women's boxing is actually growing. Years later down the line, their divisions will get more competitive as a result of more doing it. So whilst some may think it's rubbish now, the depth of quality will increase over time, much like anything that is new and progresses. Personally I have no problem with it, why should I either.
