Soto now has the WBC 135 belt... if Katsidis could get this fight i personally think he could win it. Soto doesn't look as sharp or commanding as he did at 130 and has shown signs of being a bit gun shy when he is being bullied by a bigger fighter. I reckon Katsidis could take him into deep waters and get a late stoppage in this one
Agreed. :good Katsidis is a class above Soto. Could be great times for Kats should he get through Mitchell with some big fights and potential unifications.
Soto is pencilled to fight Anthony Peterson next... Peterson is a handy little fighter and I would tip him to beat Soto on points. Soto had plenty of advantages at 126 and 130 but those seem to be a bit nullified at 135. He just doesnt appear to have that same tenacity or aggression he had at the lower weights. Sure he beat Diaz and Chavez convincingly but those guys are coming off a fair few ass whippings themselves, Diaz never recovered after Pac and was never much chop before hand anyhow
hope Soto crushes his voicebox.does Peterson still make that stupid bap bap noise everytime he throws a combination of punches?as for Soto/Kats good fight if he can beat Mitchell.
While talking about Soto v Katsidis is interesting I'm kinda concerned about his next fight...come on Mick :good
Dont think Soto vs Katsidis will happen even if they both win their upcoming bouts. Not nearly enough money in this matchup to force Golden Boy/Top Rank to start talking. Soto has a terrific matchup with Anthony Peterson on June 5 from Yankees Stadium on the undercard of Cotto-Foreman. Katsidis's bout against Mitchell is going to be from Upton Park, so a huge fight for Katsidis too.
guys i was just after some opinions on how you think this fight would go :rofl just a fantasy match up? WhatARock please save the thread hehe
Id favour Soto Gonz. Its one of the best fights out there at the weight without a doubt...Id give Mick a huge shot, I to think Soto has peaked a bit with his weight, lost a bit of shine and pop..but still a world class operator. If Mick can put on a good performance againt Mitchell, then get another crowd pleasing win on US T.V, then people will be screaming for this fight. But Id look for Valero-Soto by the end of the year...not sure Edwin has the fights at 140 that he expects to propel him into the spotlight. Given the Bobfather's tendency to try at all costs to keep everything inhouse I think he is steering it all towards this matchup once Soto is done with Peterson and Valero is all better.
Soto is a class fighter. I'm surprised so many of you write him off so easily. He can let his hands go and trouble any fighter at 135. I say it would be a cracking back and forth all action fight. Both can bang and both can be hit, it has the makings of a classic.
Katsidis has his hands full with Mitchell although I feel he'll come through. I actually think David Diaz would be a great opponent for Katsidis so he could get a win over a class opponent while being able to best show off his skills against someone who will be there to fight him.
