It was very very competitive but still I think JMM won most of the rounds. I don't know the official score cards. Great match and great demonstration of body work and combination punching from JMM
It is in my books. Unless there was some little known great fight that nobody saw, like Sithchatchawal/Monshipour in 2006. Among the major fights this year, I can't think of anything nearly as good.
Cazares-Nashiro. Escalante-Roman. Possibly Poonsawat-Hosono. EDIT: Daniel Estrada-Angel Alirio Rivero as well. Actually, that probably is the fight of the year.
It was a great fight, could well be FOTY there was a lot of back and forth action. Marquez showed typical heart to get back up after being dropped heavily in the 3rd. But my enjoyment of it was lessened by the fact I watched it on a Spanish broadcast and didn't understand a word atsch
Yes it was 1sided Katsidis won 2rounds tops, but he did make it competitive with his pressure, strength, solid chin. Great performance and skill from Marquez, great heart and effort from Katsidis. Katsidis heart made it a great fight, but lets not pretend it was back and forth, there was 1 fighter landing the clean accurate damaging punches time and again I do think it was fight of the year for me so far, off the top of my head anyway, it tops Kessler-Froch for me. Hats off to both men
To be honest Litzau v. Caballero was more exciting than Marquez v. Katsidis,in the Marquez fight other than in the third round it was pretty much dominated by Marquez, Katsidis gave the illusion of it being a good fight with his will and pressure, but his punches are light and doesn't have any snap or crispness to them, Marquez got the better of him in every round. This is not the fight of the year, but a good performance by JMM.
Awesome fight! It had all the essentials. One of the best in years. Marquez fights are always all out wars. :deal
hardly with exception of the knock down the outcome was quite predictable but even that knockdown marquez is susceptible to kissing the canvas
And by the way Juan Manuel Lopez vs Rafael Marquez was better than JMM v. Katsidis, so i give FOTY to the younger brother in a losing effort.
:think Yea I think I'd agree too. Rafa was getting outpunched and outgunned, but he had Juanma in serious, serious trouble and at one point had a golden opportunity to stop Juanma, but the ref stopped the action at the worst possible time. Lopez-Marquez gets my nod over Marquez-Katsidis.
Probably FOTY. I can't think of any other fight this year that can be in contention. I thought the fight had some moments for Katsidis and didnt think it was dominance by Marquez, though I had the pleasure of watching it with no commentary which was weird but quite preferable.
