to those who i say it was one sided: i agree that the SCORES were one sided but the rounds weren't. marquez had to work and dig deep for every single ****ing round. on the round system, he dominated but when you watch the fight you see that katsidis was there every second until the 9th
Pacquiao-Magarito was still fight of the year for me. Pacquiao fought a guy with a granite chin, who's never really been hurt (please don't mention Mosley as Margarito was smiling , after the ref stopped the fight, was smiling at the post presser), who was in the shape of his life, who outweighed Pac by 17 pounds, who landed 2 Cintron-destroying liver shots, and was sent to the hospital with a broken face. Martinez-Williams was a close 2nd because they were evenly matched. Marquez-Katsidis is third.
Katsidis was throwing smart punches too. Some people thought he would fight wild and be picked off but he fought pretty disciplined. Katsidis/Marquez showed heart, skill, and a "never back down" attitude by both guys. JMM always gets credit for recovering and his heart but he is also good at adapting. He didn't slow down Katsidis with bodyshots dramatically but you could tell they hurt and JMM threw them quite often. Nothing like smart body punching to slow down a pressure fighter.
great post. the only thing katsidis did that annoyed me was throw his right hand on a downward trajectory and not straight. if he straightened up the right, maybe he would have had success and worked over marquez's eye a bit
Let's see... Martinez and Williams were pretty evenly matched. Marquez had this **** in the bag. Lopez-Marquez was good, but it ended with Marquez quitting due to a shoulder injury. Ward-Bika was a stupid, sometimes exciting fight. Froch-Abraham was a good fight at best. Cotto-Foreman was unimpressive and a ****ing circus. You had a douchebag ref and a gimpy fighter in Foreman. Lopez-Concepcion was an explosive fight. Cabellero-Litzau was a good schooling for Cabellero, but nothing screams Top 5 FOTY contendor to me. Pacquiao-Clottey sucked balls, but was no fault of Pac's. Maidana-Corley was blah. Khan Malignaggi was fun, but hardly fight of the year material. Etc, etc, etc. **** off, ******. :hi:
Marquez-Katsidis was not fight of the year. When Marquez got dropped and rallied back - that might make Top 5 round of the year. Don't be butthurt, *****. :yep
You think Pacquiao-Margarito was FOTY based on the circumstances, rather than the fight itself. Watch Escalante-Roman, Cazares-Nashiro II, Estrada-Rivero and Poonsawat-Hosono and tell me that was fight of the year.
I disagree with Pac-Marg being the fight of the year. Really impressive performance from Pacquiao in dismantling a much bigger opponent, but it was so one-sided I don't see how it can qualify as FOTY.
O.K. that clears it up then. Pac/Margo wasn't a one sided beat down. Definitely fight of the year then over all those other mediocre fights on your list there. :yep:yep:yep
100% agree. It was a great performance...always like to see those. I'm sure I'll watchit a couple more times as soon as I find it on YouTube....it really showed everything Carl can do in the ring. Very impressive:good
False. I saw Pac eat uppercuts and headshots from a guy that was massive. I saw Pac almost go down from 2 brutal liver shots. Had Margarito tagged him just once more, Pac most likely would have gone down. Then I saw Pac rip Margarito with some brutal body shots, a ****ing insane uppercut in the 4th that saw Margarito's face swell and fill with blood almost immediately, and then a brutal, brutal right hand in the 9th that stopped Margarito right in his tracks. If that weren't enough, I witnessed a very classy display of sportsmanship when Pac started pulling his punches in the 11th and 12th. Would the fight have ranked higher for you if Pac went for the kill and KO'd Margarito? Drama, class, all-action fight. You just won't consider it a FOTY contendor because you hate Pac and because Pac made it look easy. atschatschatschatschatschatsch
I could see that happening too. One thing I can't lie about is that I was worried after JMM was dropped in the third round and I wanted him to clinch. I started to realize that he was smothering Katsidis instead(to avoid mid-range punishment which he was earlier a partial victim to) and was showing not too bad bobbing & weaving though he was still taking some shots. He came back well as always and limited the offensive effectiveness of Katsidis in the later part of the third round. Smart fighter.
Don't bother bro. Its a ******* resorting to name calling because hes the only one seeing it that way. Hes obviously hurt. Gotta love these "*******S".....:yep:yep
