Read on here that Kevin Mitchell sees his upcoming Interim Title fight With Michael Katsidis as being like Ricky Hattons biggest career win v long time light welterweight king Kostya Tszyu. I wondered what peoples thoughts were on this, is it really as big a fight in the grand scheme of things?

Kostya Tszyu despite his age was the top man at his weight and high on the lb for lb list when Hatton fought him. Katsidis while a very tough operator cant doesnt have a claim to either of these things. Kev claims that this fight will propel him into the American market like the Tszyu win did for Hatton but im not so sure. Again dont wanna discredit Katsidis i love his aggressive style but his biggest fights in the states were a win against escobedo (wider than the sd suggests imo) but also 2 losses v casamayor and diaz. While he did himself no harm in v good efforts in those fights he wouldnt be considered the big star there that Tszyu was in his time, with many title wins in the states

Personally a 36yr old top of the division (if he stays there) JMM would be Kevin's 'Tszyu fight' if he were to get past Michael Katsidis...

I think its a fight people are looking fwd to because of the expected slugfest that they'll bring but in the grand scheme of things it aint that big a fight.

    Kostya was the man....

True things man, Tszyu was awesome. Whilst it would be gr8 4 the neutral 2 c that slugfest that'd probably cumilate into Katsidis out warring Mitchell, Kev's gotta be smart in this fight! Its a big fight 4 the kid but to say its as big as Hatton-Tszyu is 2 far 4 me. Would put him in line 4 that JMM fight though which would really put him on the map as far as the States is concerned

Big nights ahead if he can keep winning but that Hatton night was so big,not only because of Kostyas greatness but also because Sky had built up Hatton's career so well

Kev's not had the same build up so its really only hardcore fans who know of him at the mo. If his fights on PPV,this wont change.

Katsidis is nowhere near as distinguished a scalp as Tszyu was.

In another era this would just be Mitchell stepping up to fight a top contender. Now it's for a pathetic ABC strap.

It's a big fight for Mitchell, Katsidis is a good name.

I'm actually looking forward to this fight. I wasn't that interested in Hatton and Tsyzu.

Tsyzu was an excellent, well respected fighter who held a few titles. Katsidis is an all out action fighter who is WBO level.

This is a good Commonwealth\WBO interim level fight, exciting. But neither is a real world champion are they?

Its a good match up, but has little historical signifigance, because Michael Katsidis isn't Kostya Tszyu and it isn't for the lineal title.

tszyu was the best bit of match making i have seen in probably 20 years he was for the takin he was 35 had one fight in 29 months im surprised how many on here consider this a great/epic win going 10 rounds with mayweather was a better performance imo.
katsidis is in his prime and is much more a even match up if itchell wins this warren will build him up with more clever matchmakin as he is his only name(excludin the fledgling olympians) in his stable so he wont risk mitchell unless the risk is worth the reward

Going ten rounds and getting your head bounced of a ringpost before getting KTFO is a better performance than beating a the main guy at the weight for 8 years and in that time unbeaten haha ok. :good:good

Well yes its his coming out fight. Not on the same scale maybe or of the same significance of Hatton Tszyu but there are definite similarities. In front of thousands of his home fans agaisnt an Australian who is of high regard in the states. If he wins it will turn a few heads in America and he will likely become a semi "name" in British sport probably at least on a par with Froch in terms of celebrity status

I think he meant career defining fight ... when he beats Katsidis then he will be marketable !.... similar to Hattons fight ....

Give up with that shite, Kosta was not prime but was far from finished, that was a great win for Hatton and to say going ten rounds with Mayweather ( from round 5 looking like 100 leagues apart ) before getting ktfo is more impressive is a ****ing joke. :patsch
