Katsunari Takayama vs Reiya Konishi is set for November 23rd

Thought he retired. Shame, doesn't need to be in with a guy who's a top 20 contender at the weight class above him. I know he won a title in his final fight but that been a long ass time ago.
Absolute legend at strawweight though, 4X champ, won a legit interim belt (as the champ was genuinely not able to fight for it and he immediately fought the champ after and lost by SD) and unified the titles once to boot.

 

He retired to chase an Olympic place
Missed out on the Olympics, and went back to the pros. His promoter now is Nobuhiro Ishida, which is kinda cool.

In the main event of this show is Riku Kano... The man Takayama beat in his last pro fight

 

Funny tidbit that. Didn't know Kano would be main event worthy above the likes of a Takayama vs Konishi fight, that's a good matchup. Kano is Japanese title level tops atm. He needs a rebuild if he's to challenge for a world title again.

 

He's in a title fight, it's his promoter putting on the show and the TV channel he's worked with are the online broadcaster.... Agree with you though, if it wasn't Taisei in charge he'd be down the card imo

Shame about the olympics but hope he doesn’t stay pro for too long considering how long he’s been in the game and how long he’s been on top. Did he ever finish school? I thought he was in university?

 

Is that regarded highly at all like the OPBF in Asia or nah?

It's the ONLY other regional title the JBC recognise (along with OPBF)....so "sorta" is the answer...but it's certainly not as well regarded as the OPBF.
