Why do you believe that Machida takes this decisively? Not arguing, exactly; just curious.

Saku will not be able to take Machida down and his crazy wailing atack will be a detriment. Wandy who has an atrocious technique put a severe beating on Saku why would you think Machida cant do better?

Saku really is a Welterweight and a flabby(soft) welterweight at that. This guy can cut to LW if he wanted. Saku has been great against BJJ guys who he can outgrapple on the ground.

    You still curious?

Agreed, Saku Vs St Pierre would be a better question.

I didn't say whether I believed Machida couldn't outdo Wandy's performance standing. I merely asked for your opinion.

His best work, however, was at around 200 lbs. Surely this should be the weight class where we evaluate his abilities?

    I'm always curious.

As a sidenote, I don't think that Wandy is necessarily a good proxy for Machida. Their approaches are very different, and Wanderlei's crude-yet-swarming striking might have been better suited to battering Sakuraba into submission than Machida's counterpunching is. More importantly, Machida doesn't have Wandy's buzzsaw clinch.

On the other hand, Machida's takedown defense is better than Silva's (though he does find himself on the ground from time to time).

Sakuraba prime is one of the ATGs of this sport, his best work was against guys 20-30 pounds (muscle) heavier than him. The Wandy fight, Silva was clearly the agressor but that doesnt relinguish the fact that Saku is the same type of standup guy, he flurries. As a matter of fact he tried to trade with Silva. Machida wouldnt have top wait for Saku to attack, Saku will.

As for the clinch, Lyoto has shown the propensity to want to clinch but just couldnt find the right moment. He will clinch Saku at will, hes just that strong.
