Kazuto Ioka: top 15 all time south of bantamweight already?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by IntentionalButt, Jun 19, 2019.

Is he top-15 all-time sub-bantam?

  1. Yes.

    81.8%
  2. No, but a win in the Nietes rematch puts him there.

  3. No, lots of work to do. (unify super fly, etc.)

Yes, all three above him. They were better h2h and have better singular wins (Montiel, Mijares, and Darchinyan). Donaire is mostly due to being one of the best h2h and logging the huge win over Vic.

Straw is a very limited talent pool and the belts don’t carry much weight (no pun) unless defended indefinitely like Finito did.

What a performance! What a TKO!

Palicte looks like the Asian Danny Jacobs in that still image.

Nah, not for me. He doesn’t quite make my top 10 light fly weight/straw weight combined list though he was very close to making it

All trinket collecting since then with only a few impressive scalps. Not for me if we’re combining 105, 108, 112 and 115. Not by a long, long shot.

He hasn’t clearly surpassed a fair few legit all-time great flyweights, combining his accomplishments I could see him above a couple of this list though....but nah, not only is it a minefield and a huge discussion I’d have to educate a fair few folks on decades and decades and decades of lower weight history and I just cannot be bothered.

Darchinyan would beat the living daylights out of Ioka, and his super flyweight run is more impressive than anything Ioka’s done IMO.

That’s it, I’m done. Bored as Hell already, @ChrisJS please only tag me in threads created by actual historians in the future please not this weeb love-in. Cheers.

I was at a card with Ioka and Nietes against Palicte. My impression was that Ioka was the best and I was surprised that Nietes went on to get a win against him.

Not exactly in an order but when I think of the best fighters from under 118 I’m thinking the following :-

    Jimmy Wilde
    Miguel Canto
    Pascual Perez
    Fidel LaBarba
    Pancho Villa
    Ricardo Lopez
    Roman Gonzalez
    Mark Johnson
    Gilberto Roman
    Santos Laciar
    Horacio Accavallo
    Yuri Arbachakov
    Frankie Genaro
    Benny Lynch
    Jung Koo Chang
    Hilario Zapata
    Yuh Myung Woo
    Masao Ohba
    Pongsaklek Wonjongkam
    Chartchai Chionoi
    Peter Kane
    Pone Kingpetch
    Betulio Gonzalez
    Khaosai Galaxy
    Hiroyuki Ebihara
    Jiro Watanabe
    Donnie Nietes
    Nonito Donaire

Based just on accomplishments below 118. I think people would be surprised to see how deep the quality is down there.

Yeah, I’m sure there’s others too. Like I said it’s very stacked down there.
