A week from Wednesday, June 19th in Chiba, for the vacant WBO super flyweight title. Palicte is ranked #1 and Ioka #2 by the WBO.

For once you won't have to worry about sleuthing out a Japanese-language broadcast to watch. This card - a world championship triple-header, along with Hiroto "Dynamite Boy" Kyōguchi vs. Tanawat "Satanmuanglek CP Freshmart" Nakoon for the WBA super flyweight title and Miyo "Musashi" Yoshida vs. Carissa Lehua "Lady Hawaiian Punch" Morton for the women's vacant WBO super flyweight title - is airing on UFC Fight Pass. Why? Palicte is an RJJ fighter, and Jones has a broadcast deal in place for all his promotional interests with the streaming platform.

Both have fought common opponent Donnie Nietes within the last year: Ioka losing a split decision, and Palicte drawing with him ( somewhat controversially) in yet another SD.

I think Palicte has a decent chance to beat Ioka.

@PinoyProdigy, @BoyBato what are your fellas thoughts?

50/50 fight for me. If Palicte is able to use his advantages in terms of height and reach, he has a good shot. I want him to play the counterpuncher role here. Land from distance and get back out, don't give Ioka a chance. Should be a good one.

Fight Pass would appear to be showing only the main event, which sort of jives as Palicte is their only vested interest on the bill, although it would be nice if they showed more of the championship triple-header... Kyōguchi vs. Nakoon, at the very least..

Starts at 8am EST, which is 9pm local time in Chiba. While that may sound encouraging, be advised that Japanese main events coming on that early is nothing unusual - and Fight Pass literally doesn't mention a peep about the other fights on its event page..

I hate this fight with a passion, Ioka is one of my favorite fighters and I really like Palicte. Also, I see this as The Battle of the Nietes Conquerors. Ioka clearly beat Donnie, and the draw was well deserved in the Palicte match, I had Aston winning by a point. As much as I want Ioka to win, he's getting old, and style wise, Palicte couldn't be more wrong for him. I think Palicte's power is more impressive, and his size is going to be quite the problem. So I'm with much regret picking Palicte by late TKO.:xqw

What if the winner gets rewarded with a Nietes rematch? :deal:

I'll still hate it, because one of them will have beaten the other. I don't dislike Donnie, only his style, that being said, he'll be even older by the time the rematch with either rolls around, and if they repeat what they did in their last matches, they leave room for a robbery, hopefully they press the issue just a tad more, and that'll probably be enough.

Here's my thing: Ioka has been at the vanguard of putting Japanese boxers once more at the fore of the world scene in recent years, and seems like an honestly great, humble individual who carries his people on his back, and is writing the last chapter of his story. For the sheer inspirational value, I'd like to see him grab another big win or two, and this would qualify. Palicte is 28 and still has a good few years of his prime left ahead of him.

Aston can recover from a loss to Kazuto, but not vice-versa. :deal:

That's the exact place I'm coming from here, I'm genuinely a huge straight up fanboy of Ioka's, both in the ring and out, have been for quite some time, and in the worst way I want to see him win. And will be thrilled if he does. But I just see this match as big ask style wise. I really really hope I'm wrong.

I think palicte has a shot. He has the tools to fight outside and if he feels like it he can also just rain down those right hands like he did on martinez. But i also wouldn't count out ioka's experience. Honestly im really on the fence here. I want palicte to win but im expecting ioka to take it.

Turns out TBS isn't showing any more than UFC Fight Pass - their broadcast goes live at 2100 (9pm) local time as well:

So we might actually get the full card. :nusenuse:
