Headlining the annual Japanese boxing New Years Eve bash on TBS. WBO super flyweight title at stake, Ioka's second defense. This'll be a good one.
Fantastic fight. It's a tough one. Ioka is likely the rightful favorite but have a feeling that Tanaka rises to the occasion and takes a close well fought decision. I'm a bit biased though. Tanaka is my favorite Japanese fighter after Inoue.
Ioka will smash this goofy looking overrated hype job to bits. His best win to date are both over wartorn fighters nearing the ends of their careers with Taguchi and Kimura, who I liked immensely. Acosta was shown to be one note and average against Elwin Soto, and Daigo Higa put his win over Flores into perspective. He's out of his depth here and will be picked apart and stopped by Ioka ruthlessly.
This might just be the best Jap vs. Jap fight ever made. Also make or break for Tanaka who I'm not sold on, but seems like a fighter who always gets the job done and needs to do against betting odds to shut up some naysayers. Should be dandy.
i have gone back in forth in my pick,... reckless youth and strength vs. straighter punches and experience.. still rooting for Ioka. to win... but just cant pick a winner
I saw Ioka vs Nietes and was not impressed. Just uses the high guard for defense, no other defense. I’m extremely impressed with Tanaka, who has great head movement, great variation of defensive techniques, great counters, and very good body punches. I guess Ioka is bigger although I don’t know how much 3 lbs matters even at this weight range. I cannot see for the life of me how Tanaka can lose this fight. Tanaka by UD.
If Tanaka fights like he did in his last 1 or 2 fights, he should win this comfortably. He was way more hesitant and intelligent in the ring. But if he's gonna go wild and looking for a brawl, he could be in serious trouble. Ioka has sneaky power and speed. And Tanaka was wobbled and hurt and dropped before. Ioka is definitely a live underdog here and i think he can win this on points. Close fight anyway.
There's a clear technical, experience and prōbably size edge fōr Iōka, But sō far Kōsei has risen tō the ōccasiōn, and while my predictiōn is him gōing back dōwn with a decisiōn lōss ōn his recōrd, it cōuld be his Pac-MAB cōrōnatiōn and finally a P4P appearance that's lōng ōverdue. What I alsō dō knōw fōr sure: it's gōnna be ōne helluva fight!
At the medical today, there was almost NO size difference. Ioka is 0.2cm tall, has 2cm reach advantage, and a 5.5cm thicker chest Tanaka has a 1.7cm thicker neck
