Literally everything about this is weird. Very weird.

This is only the second sanctioned pro bout in the last eight years for former lightweight BBBofC Scottish Area and Commonwealth champion "The Aberdeen Assassin", whose life since being retired after seven rounds with a hand injury in a challenge of Denis Shafikov for his EBU title at 140lbs just a few months shy of a decade ago has been nothing short of buck wild. He was arrested a few years later for breaking a dude's jaw in a kebab takeaway. Then three years after that, he randomly fought an exhibition? outlaw pro boxing match? Whatever you want to call it, he fought chewed-up-and-spat-out heavyweight contender and Mike Tyson conqueror Danny Williams, and knocked Williams out in 2018. ****ing bananas, right? But doesn't count on either of their pro records, and unless you were paying attention a few years ago when it happened you probably have no idea it even took place. He had other such unlicensed fights, across a wide range of weight classes, both before and after Williams - but good luck sussing out a definitive W-L record for him during that period, as none were official or very widely covered by boxing media.

Then this past March he makes a random ass comeback deep on the undercard of a random ass show in a literal street basketball court, and wins the vacant Ghanaian super welterweight title by stopping Collinson Korley - an actual, literal Ghanaian. Now there's more than a couple of problems with this. One, both fighters missed weight, in fact both by the same amount - both coming in at 157lbs. Oh well, sanctioned for the 154lb title anyhow. Then there's the fact that the title, laying dormant since 2014, was resurrected for this fight, despite the fact that Korley was coming off a stoppage loss and McAllister had never fought in Ghana so as to, you know, interpolate himself into the national rankings. Which brings me to - WTF is a pasty ass Scotsman doing competing for the national belt of Ghana in the first place?!

Anyway don't worry. Today's main event isn't a defense of the Ghanaian title - which is good, because Luanja isn't Ghanaian either. No, but it is for the vacant WBO super welterweight African title. Yep.

Luanja is at least Tanzanian, which makes him perfectly eligible for this belt. He also is coming off his career best victory, knocking out Gianluca Branco. Yes, you read that correctly. Yes, that is the same plodding Italian ham-and-egger that once wore the very EBU super lightweight belt that McAllister challenged Shafikov for a few years later (full circle!). The guy that fought Cotto, and Gatti, and (Matthew) Hatton. Decent fighter in his prime, but decidedly Euro level. That is the major feather in Luanja's cap, by far - and oh yeah, did I forget to mention? Branco was 51 years old.

Before that Luanja's biggest step up was against Reshat "The Albanian Bear" Mati, less than half Branco's age, who stopped Luanja in 2 rounds. Besides Branco and Mati you're unlikely to have heard of anybody else on Luanja's record, which stands at 14-8-2.

BUT AT LEAST HE'S AFRICAN, unlike the 39 year old Scot, who's co-promoting this event. :sisi1

Also weird: what ever happened to his brother, Matthew "The Hawk" McAllister? Turned pro in 2011 and racked up a 10-0 (2) record over the next four years, mostly at 154lbs, capturing the Scottish Area welterweight belt in his final appearance (first time making 147) and then - poof. Vanished. Maybe he followed his brother into the unsanctioned underground? :nusenuse: From his Instagram posts it appears Matty M. has kept regularly in the gym, and yet paradoxically blown up in weight quite frequently (he likes to live the good life: beer, chips, pizza, cigars) so, guess the rigors of the pro game just weren't for him despite showing a little promise (but never actually beating anybody with a positive record)?

Quartey was apparently the best female amateur in Ghana for a while, and her pro debut has been anticipated since it was announced this past summer.

She fought at 61kg, which is basically equivalent to lightweight.

...and Quartey gets the RTD2 (or TKO2) victory as the other woman doesn't answer the bell for round three.

Next bout is a pair of debutantes in a 4-rounder at flyweight; a local Ghanaian vs. a gal from Lagos, Nigeria - sounds like Sherri Lartey vs. Blessed "Blackberry" Phukulabdada, phonetically? Not listed on BoxRec. (pretty much the whole card on BR besides the main event is a random male boxer vs. TBA...this is our second female bout and neither has been the one actually listed on the card's page)

Two knockdowns for the Nigerian. Second one keeps the local woman down, riding the count.

    KO1!

Er, yeah, something tells me this info BoxRec has mightn't be altogether up to date (nor entirely accurate in the first place).

    https://i.ibb.co/0rzQHJ7/mcallisterluanjacard.jpg

20 bout card, of which 15 have "TBA" in the opponent column.

...including neither of the chick fights that have yet transpired (and the ring emcee just introduced the next, another women's 4-rounder at flyweight, announcing names that aren't listed above...sounds like Laeticia Amonoah-Alcraf vs. Pearl Atchiti)
