...first of all, I must admit that even I have gotten caught up in all this Marquez hype, guilty of saying Pac got his ass kicked, and he has been overrated all along, and he'd never beat FMJ, but I just re-watched the fight, and scored it 115-114 for JMM. Marquez was in control for most of the fight. He often made Pacquiao looks silly. He deserved the win, but this was by no means highway robbery...

...Marquez has Pac's number, and that's all there is to it. That is as clear as day. This isn't the first time a great fighter has had his number had by another fighter. Norton-Ali, Tarver-Jones, Forrest-Mosely, Taylor-Hopkins, just to name a few...I already knew JMM had Pac's #, and said since the fight was signed that it wouldn't be as easy as everyone thinks. I didn't think JMM would win, but I thought he'd give Pac a rough fight, but end up KO'd in the later rounds...

...everyone is bashing Pacquiao right now. Many people have turned their backs on him, and I did too for a short spell, but now - **** that. Pacquiao is still my boy. He isn't the first great fighter to have a bad night. Name one great fighter who hasn't had a bad night or got a shaky decision. What the man has accomplished over the last few years is the main reason why people expected him to steamroll JMM, and what he has accomplished in the last few years is greater than what FMJ has in his entire career...

...please don't get caught up in the thought that FMJ would school Pac because of what happened on Saturday. I think Pacquiao would have his finest hour against Floyd, and that could mean a win, or that could mean him performing much better than most expect. Either way, I will be supporting him...

...keep your heads up. Our boy will be back. You heard it here first.

the *******s are on leave because they don't like being duped by emmanuel

all his "improvements" was based in improving his matchmaking and very little actual improvement in skills

He has improved. Go watch his first fight with marquez and compare it the latest one. JMM just has his number. You can tweak and improve a fighters style but you cant change it completely.

And this is a good thread. Boxing fans are fickle. People act like getting a close decision against Marquez is the worst thing in the world. This is the same Pac who's been champ in 8 divisions and has dominated 147 for the past 3 years. Put him in with anybody in his weight class and he still destroys them. Floyd is the only guy who has a chance.

If Pacquiao would have his finest hour against Mayweather, then he should fight him next. For some strange reason though, Pac prefers to fight Marquez again next.

Now, I said, and I maintain that if they go with JMM in their next fight, especially will FMJ doing all of this calling out, then...well, I don't think I'd have any choice but to turn my back on Team Pac. They need to just let the JMM thing be and move on. No point in fighting JMM again, at least not before fighting Floyd.

He has improved. JMM just nullifies much of his improvement. Don't be silly, Leon.

I always knew JMM was Pac’s bogeyman, and argued tirelessly with people on this board who said Pac would steamroll him. So him giving Pac another tough fight, was not a surprise to me.

But, what was a shocking sight to see, was how useless Pacquiao was on the night. Maybe Nacho was right when he said this increasingly reserved, boxer-puncher version of Pacquiao would be easier to deal with than that old Tasmanian devil. But, seeing him have absolutely no answer to someone who takes subtle steps back and moves laterally, is a massive cause for concern. This isn’t just a JMM thing. Mosley showed us it, too. Only this time, we had a guy who was willing to make him pay after neutralizing him.

A bad night? Maybe. I hope you’re right. But I think it’s more than that.

He counters better, but Roach got lulled into thinking Pac had improved so much that Pac could out-box and out-dazzle Marquez with footwork and counters. That was so so wrong, though. Tony, why did you ever turn your back on Pac? I'm a bigger Marquez fan, which is why I'm a little disappointed at the result. However, Pac's still one of my favorite fighters and I'll root for him against Floyd. This does damage his stock and chances against Floyd even if you still think he wins you must acknowledge this. It isn't like Floyd isn't capable of implementing the same blueprint Marquez used in this third fight. I know the difference in dynamics to their difference and countering, but you have to think Floyd controls him after this last fight, regardless of who you support. At the end of the day, Pac just doesn't have a good enough inside game to capitalize on the biggest deficiency of a counter-puncher. Once he loses control of the mid to long range, he's basically out of the fight.

Top-notch post. I think Nacho and Marquez were right on the money about that. If you noticed, Marquez looked most uncomfortable when Pac started getting a little bit more desperate in those last 2 rounds (Which he probably won) than any other part of the fight.

Well, Arum came out today and said Manny prefers to fight Marquez again next instead of Mayweather. They want to do it in April or June and say the Mayweather fight is possible after that. Hopefully, he's just posturing.

they had two close fights the first time

Juan has declined in the time between the 2nd fight and the 3rd fight.

If emmanuel has "improved", he should have actually done better against Juan in fight 3 than he did in fight 2. That is not what happened though.

The fight was also contested at a weight that favors emmanuel more than it does Juan.

Same here, I rewatched it and enjoyed the fight, and watched it again to score, I could see some of the rounds going to Pac that I originally scored for JMM so it wasn't a blatant robbery.

What I DON'T condone is the path to Pac-JMM 4, which although I don't mind, I don't want it to get in the way of the Floyd fight which Arum seems keen on doing.

Also, I think they should face the facts and put some more work on the skills department because that "leg" cramp crap is getting old and you don't fix what's broken by fixing something that's isn't. I think Pac started getting his legs weirded out when Juan was putting weird pivoting in the "zone" and also of note, Pac said his legs were starting to get crappy by round 5 or so, well the end of round 4 was when Juan landed a huge blow to his chin. I wonder if they ever considered THAT being the effect on his legs.

So you're basing your thoughts solely on this fight? The Pac that beat Barerra couldnt have done that to Cotto, prime example.
