i agree. I actually thing if he didnt get those cuts, he's have took over than fights. Thurman handled him better IMO.
i don't really understand the 1st part of this. If you can move that much for 12 rounds without tiring, whilst throwing power punches, that's trouble for anyone. And he does set his punches. He throws nearly every shot with authority. your comment baffles me.
Reminds me exactly of Nate Campbell. Hes alright. Good to see the stamina and power late. Still got a ways to go though at 154.
154 is becoming a pretty stacked division at the mo. Lots of exciting fights. An Alvarez Thurman fight would be incredible.
Don't think Thurman's management have any reason to rush the kid to 154. (But yes that would be an intriguing fight)
You all are on drugs or are simply easily persuaded (by HBO's nuthugging). Thurman is a goddamn joke. He's been KO'ing trashcans and then fights Zaveck (a walking heavy bag), who threw about 8-10 punches a round. I legitimately thought there was a point where Thurman could get KO'd. Thurman gets tagged by Zaveck's slow ass, looping hooks/overhand rights repeatedly and yet people think he's good? Thurman is a complete fraud.
Devon, Ghost, Ortiz, Bradley, JMM, and even manny crush this kid. Broner beats Thurman today. Malignaggi is a toss-up. Matthyse beats this kid. Garcia, Peterson, and possibly Judah beat Thurman. Complete hypejob. Nice guy though
Like many others, I was very impressed with Thurman's patience in the ring last night. That is the single most important thing he needed to show. Also, his footwork & balance has improved dramatically. He reminded me a lot of Pernell Whittaker, only a little less fast. The big problem is still his lack of defense on his left side. Zavek was practically tagging him at will, and while Zavek is a tough little *******, he's not a speed demon. Imagine what JMM would do to him. Thurman still has a lot of work to do. - but he sure is exciting, and has massive potential.
Thurman showed good poise and unexpected versatility. Zaveck's whole plan seemed predicated on taking the guy into the later rounds, but when that occurred Thurman didn't lose his cool and still retained enough control to win going away. I don't think it's wise to go overboard and to proclaim him the next big thing, but there is a lot of upside to this guy. His defense isn't amazing, but it's not porous either and he's shown improvement in that regard. He's not a huge one punch KO puncher, but he's got enough pop to get people's respect, and to hurt them if he lands often enough. He's not super fast, but he;s not slow either and remains pretty fluid in the ring. So, I think it's likely that he might collect a title at some point, and given his skill-set, I think he'll acquit himself well against any elite fighter he faces, even if he doesn't win.
As to why your an amir khan fan. You obviously dont understand why not planting your feet and placing your punches can be detrimental to a fighters career.
thurmans style is closer to martinez than Khan. You don't hit as hard as Keith and get a name like "1 Time" by not planting your feet. Khan runs and gives away to much ground. like he did against peterson. I just dont see this guy doing that. He's a banger.
