I thought he was at his most befuddled there, and equally ineffective as lefty or right-handed, having a minor identity crisis with all the constant alternation.

 

I call it a clear Belmontes round, personally.

He didn't throw much for long stretches, but taken over the course of the full three minutes he did land a lot more than Figueroa, at the higher clip. Figueroa hardly ever touched him.

You can go a whole minute or more doing nothing but show good defense and still get the point if you sprinkle in enough shots to outnumber the opponent from bell to bell.

Figueroa is walking into jabs as Belmontes springs off the ropes and getting jolted by them. Figueroa keeps walking forward and spanking the body of Belmontes. Figueroa is forcing exchanges appearing in front of Belmontes, chopping lightly with the right hand, attempting to drown Belmontes in volume. Good counters and defensive sidestepping and slipping by Belmontes, but he is too shy with the right hand, only really zapping Figueroa with the jab, and getting dusted with flurries even while making Figueroa miss the majority of his stuff.
