...Who would you pick to win between these two? When they were scheduled to fight I was thinking it's a 'somebody's getting stopped' type of fight, and I picked Maidana to win by KO based on his experience fighting at the top level. But now I'm having second thoughts... Thurman is fast, has good power and array of punchers. With a bit more experience I think he stops Maidana. But right now I give a slight edge to Maidana. The fact that Maidana's power didn't move up to Welterweight with him doesn't bode well for him IMO. I definatley think someone's getting stopped if these two meet. Anyway, let me know what you think by voting on the poll and leaving a comment. Cheers guys.
Thurmans poise surprised me,because i thought he'd just be another puncher who throws wild bombs,i think him sparring top guys at 14 years old and holding his gives him alot of confidence,I think thurman is the real deal.
Wow! Lopsided votes for Thurman KO. I thought it would be nearly 50/50. Are people writing off Maidana?
At ww maidana doesnt bring the power with him in which favors thurman. I like thurman style in which he can box, punch, fast hands. And he has the most underrated trainer.
Maidana does not have the same power and force at 147. I only saw that one fight from Thurman but Maidana's lack of elite power at that weight makes me lean on Thurman... Wouldn't place an actual bet on him without seeing more fights though.
Maidana's power seem to be gone at 147 against Alexander. Well, maybe because Alexander was doing a lot of clinching and sapped Maidana's energy. Who knows but I got Thrurman winning by late TKO.
Depending on how much power he carries with him to 147, but overall yes. I think Maidana is on a different level and from what I saw he would have taken Thurman out and most likely quite brutally. Thurman's awkward and weak with the right (except for that one uppercut), his defense is weak... he just doesn't seem athletic to me, didn't deal with it well when pressured and he's lucky he was in there with a club fighter.
