I don't think Cotto could get down to 147 anymore. At 154 would be a great fight. Not sure whom I'd pick right off hand.
Cotto. No, Thurman. I'm not sure. Both are solid on the outside just boxing, but Thurman can crack. Cotto can box his butt off but pressure is his kryptonite. I say Thurman because his recovery senses are better. When Cotto is hurt he never has a plan. At least Thurman jumps on his bike.
Cotton before the plaster fights beats Thurman up. Cotton was known as the fiercest body puncher in boxing during that time. He'll hit Thurman to the stomach, kidneys, liver, even the dick. Thurman would fold like a lawn chair en route to a 8th round TKO. Cotton after the plaster fight, well that's different. The one who fought and should of lost vs Clottey and battered by Pacquaio loses a close UD, possible tko.
Cotto Vs Brook is a fight I'd like to see and I'd also like to see Thurman fight Garcia. Make both, the winners fight.
Part of me wants to say Cotto is too shopworn, but he has a HUGE heart and very very good boxing skills so I could not write him off. I think Thurmans' youth , mobility and pop would win this in the end though.
Now or prime Cotto? Cause prime Cotto beats the living bejesus outta Thurman. Different caliber fighter.
And Thurman is known for not taking good body shots where it's been known he gets hurt when hit there
prime Cotto hands down schools Thurman, todays Cotto id favour 60-40/55-45. don't think he can make 147 anymore so would imagine it would be contested at 154 but as far as skills go Cotto is a better fighter so I would think he could overcome what Thurman can bring.
Cotto at or near his prime has a stiff (and often overlooked) jab and some solid body work -- two things that would give "One Time" a lot of difficulty. Then again, solid counterpunchers have also managed to catch Cotto clean in his career, so it would still be a dangerous task because Thurman often looks to counter... and he does it with decent timing and good power. I think a prime Cotto (circa the Gomez fight at '47) wins, possibly by late stoppage. Thurman isn't a bum, so he'd make things a little interesting.
