Admittedly, there wasn't too much to go on, but I've just been studying Brook on YouTube and I can't decide what I think. Clearly the power is very impressive, made even better by good accuracy. Arguably, his most impressive attribute is the strength of his jab - it's not there for show, it hurts! However, I have two primary concerns. I don't think he is especially quick and I worry that his upright stance will see him get tagged or knocked out at world level. Thoughts? P.S. Post 100 - wooo
I agree. I think he's defo the best on the current British scene but I'd like to see how he fares against European level as well. I'd like to see him step in with someone like Jennings as I think it'll be a good test to actually see how good he is/ can be.
I like his accuracy and he seems to have plenty of time in there. Need to see him against tougher opposition though.
European level fighter. He looks fast and powerful now, but compared to the top dogs at welterweight his speed is normal and his power is just made to look brilliant by the china chins he has faced. Apart from that, as GazOC says, he does not have the fundamentals to go further. Hands too low without the apparent reflexes of Naz or even Witter, backs up in a straight line with his chin up, lifts his chin up when he throws a right cross. He'll unravel.
:good Also when he throws the jab his chin lifts. These are meat and drink mistakes that a decent counter-puncher would take advantage of...if he can work on getting rid of these bad habits he could turn into a decent fighter
Could do, he's got a lot of ironing out to do. I've no doubt he can reach European level because the competition is quite thin in this weight, but beyond that I have my worries. When a guy like Andre Berto is struggling soemwhat with fringe contenders I worry for Brook. That said, I like his timing. It's hard to teach timing that good.
Well compare him to Andre Berto and he's not on that level skillwise. His power is definatley high at domestic level it remains to be seen at higher level. I remember Bernard Hopkins talking about fundamentals they are essential at world level but i feel Kell can get away with it to a point like Carl Froch has but i think in a stacked division like the Welterweight Warzone i don't see him lasting. He will need to bide time and wait for division to empty and then grab an alphabet strap. I hope to see him develop because he is young and if he develops he can be a good solid champion but fundamentals have longevity and keep you up there and without them you have to have something else to bring to table such as Jones speed,Froch power and heart Mayorga's unconventional brawling power etc. Hope he can do it though seems a good lad.
I don't think he'll be that good. Probably not even world level. He also has the most gay voice I've ever heard.
kinda reminds me of a mix of haye and gamboa. good power, speed, agility and accuracy but very heavy feet and that chin as we are all saying is clearly way to high when he is throwing. i think he has the ability to get to the top but i dont think he will stay around for long. contender status at welter is a great compliment all honesty.
