Kell Brook had surgery last Friday to repair a broken orbital bone around his right eye, suffered in a fifth-round knockout loss to unified middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin on Sept. 10.

"All went well and he's resting up," Anthony Leaver, spokesman for Brook promoter Matchroom Boxing, said on Wednesday.

The surgery took place in Brook's hometown of Sheffield, England.

Brook will be out of action until next year but is expected back at full strength, although he likely will vacate his welterweight title and settle in at junior middleweight.

"He looked worse after the fight than he did after the operation," Ingle said.

"The surgeon went up through his gums, his front teeth, moved an eye to one side and then sorted out the fracture. Kell is good, though, and doesn't want any delays before his next fight. He wants to be out again early in the new year, rather than later."

    I respect Brook .

Hopefully he makes a quick full recovery.

My concern is when he makes his return, he will be ruined goods and wont be able to perform at his highest potential .

    I hope im wrong.

Boxing is suffering right now , we need all the biggest stars we can get.

We cant afford to lose Brook due to that eye injury.

Anyone who doubted the fight should have been stopped needs to take a read of what the surgeon had to do in repairing the fracture :

"The surgeon went up through his gums, his front teeth, moved an eye to one side and then sorted out the fracture".

Fighters have had this type of injury before and come back. Until we hear differently I'm going to assume once it repairs he will be as good as new - I certainly hope that's the case.

I've cracked my orbital bone before and that's normal procedure.

Not saying it isn't. Just saying it was a sensible decision for the fight to be stopped when it was.

Hope he makes a full recovery and it isn't a permanent weakness that opponents can exploit. Gotta like KB he has a set.

I think Brook could've physically continued, and I'm not on this "he was about to be knocked out anyway" bandwagon but I felt Brook had made his statement by that point by being competitive with Golovkin- more so than anyone else since he's been a HBO star anyway. His profile shot up, and the guys he's looking to fight now and will be seen as a realistic option- Canelo, Cotto, Khan etc, would've been the same names on the radar even if he pulled off the upset.

So yes, a good bit of corner work from Ingle rather than waiting to see if it went completely tits up.

Maybe, if you want to be really dramatic though, maybe GGG would've gassed after the middle rounds and Brook could've picked him off.

Golovkin does not run out of gas, never has because he always trains hard, stays in shape....................

Margarito was never the same after his orbital was broken, hope Brook heals up sooner and better. If that fight had not been stopped, Brook's career would have been over, his health was saved by his corner..............
