Former champion Brandon Rios (33-2, 24KOs) is close to securing another world title shot.

According to promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, the winner of Kell Brook vs. Frankie Gavin will face Rios in the fall. Hearn, who promotes both British fighters, is presently negotiating with Rios' promoter Top Rank and says a deal is very close to being reached.

Gavin (22-1, 13KOs) challenges Brook (34-0, 23KOs) for his IBF welterweight title on May 30th at the O2 Arena in London.

Rios was last in action in January, when he demolished Mike Alvarado for a third round TKO in their trilogy meeting.

"The Amir Khan fight is not going to happen anytime soon. We're in deep talks with Top Rank. The winner of this fight will fight Brandon Rios. We're about to get that tied up, this week or next," Hearn told ***********.com/Be Real Boxing.

Kell Brook should be ashamed of himself !

If it can't be Khan, then should be Thurman in the summer.

And it wouldn't shock me If Brandon pulled an upset, I'm a big Kell Brook fan, but Rios' inside game is really good and his overhand may become problematic for Brook, and I'm pretty sure Brandon can take his power.

Rios was a suitable opponent for Pac= Not good enough to fight Brook.
Algieri was a suitable opponent for Pac= Not good enough to fight Khan.

This says something about Pac's recent opposition. I think Rios would be a good step up for Brook but this would not be a big fight in the WW division. If Hearn is negotiating with Top rank, it should be for Kell to fight Pac or Bradley.

Porter tried to rough him up on the inside and he did ok. Rios is not as busy as porter or bore in with his head like him to. I did not realise how much a cuts hazard porter is.

Brook should be able to beat Rios decisively, and may even stop him.

Margarito hadn't been close to being stopped when he fought Mosley. Rios is not a WW and he has taken a lot of punishment over the years. Brook is a WW, is pretty strong, and packs a good punch. A stoppage is a legit possibility.

  14. How is Rios not a welterweight? He's a massive kid.
