When I site TBR, it is also the consensus opinion.

Nobody but "the usual suspects" ranks Rios in the top 10 at WW. You can't without looking foolish beyond belief.

So, TBR fails when representing mass consensus or the belief of writers/peers/industry men with this example.

Is Rios a world champ? currently? I thought he was a previous world champ at LWW.

Rios is rated in the top 10 on boxrec and many have him rated in the top 10.

As much I use boxrec they are way off sometimes, British MW ratings have Eubank Jr at number 1, I like Jr but come on.

Rios is an OK fight, not great but it's difficult o get a name for that date. Thurman said he wants to fight July so that puts him out for the time being. Bradley is fighting the end of this month, Porter is fighting Broner.

It's just a quick defence, keeping Brook active but Brook will have to fight a big name by the end of the year, no more excuses.

Rios will provide a decent punching bag for Brook. But that's about it. Not really a good fight.

the question is why doesn't kell brook get a fight a higher ranked top 10-keith thurman, bradley, etc?

is it because rios is a walking punching bag? :deal

I heard that about Provodnikov too when he fought Matthysse. Sh!t like Matthysse will kill him with his lack of defense, or Bradley almost stopped him since they were fixing to throw in the towel. But he had Matthysse holding on for dear life at the end.

Rios has never been knocked out, so, it begs the question...

Not an easy fight for Kell at first glance. Especially if he comes out lackluster like he did against Gavin.

Stating an opinion as fact is never a great idea.

Come on BM, you're better than that!

    Brook UD (118-110). That's my opinion. :D

I put that down to Gavin being an awkward, defensive southpaw.

That fight went as I believed it would (as I mentioned in many posts prior to the fight) . Kell would win conclusively, but look poor at times (though he did stop Frankie 2-3 rounds earlier than I predicted).

My guess is that it is because Rios is cheap and available. And it's a decent stay busy fight until Khan realises that he has nowhere else to go and signs up to fight Kell.

Now, before we embark on our traditional (and usually enjoyable) literary sparring session, lets look at Khan's options once the Mayweather fight disappears.

    Thurman? Say no more.
JMM? Injured (and far too dangerous for Amir).
Bradley? Yes. But that is a very risky fight that is not a huge payday.
Pacquiao? Nap time for Amir.
    Brook? Yes.
Broner (if he beats Porter)? Yes.
Porter (if he beats Broner)? Yes.
Maidana? Chino is showing no wish to come back (but a rematch is a possibility).
Algieri rematch? Hey guys, don't laugh! Believe me, it is a possibility (though more unlikely than the other obvious possible Khan bouts).

So we have Bradley, Broner/Porter, Brook or Maidana.

Brook is by far the biggest payday out of those!!

The other bouts would be in America, and the Americans have already shown that they dont give a cr ap about Khan (his fight with Algieri only had 7,000 in attendance, despite it being in a 17,000 arena in Chris's home state) so Amir isn't going to get anywhere near the $7.5 million he will get for fighting Brook by taking any of the other fights. In fact, he would have to beat Bradley AND Broner/Porter AND Maidana to earn as much. And Amir loses at least one of those three.

The problem Amir has is that in trying to establish himself in America and attempting to secure the Mayweather fight by circumventing all credible opposition at WW, he has ruined his UK AND US ppv appeal.

It was a gamble that thus far has failed spectacularly.
