First of all I give credit to Brook and Spence for this fight for the following reasons. In Brook you have a fighter who could easily have vacated his title at 147 to move up to 154. Basically he would not have taken any criticism from the fans since he is moving down from 160 and he also could have picked up the JrMW IBF title with ease and try to get a big payday against Cotto or Canelo. Instead he is draining himself to 147, a weight that he has a hard time making, to fight an unproven high risk / low reward opponent who would likely become a big name in a couple of years. Spence deserves some credit as well for going to England to take this fight against a prized champion fighting for the biggest promotion company in the country. I'm not 100% confident in my prediction, but I think Brook will take it by decision or late round TKO, depending on Spence's chin. I'll give Spence the benefit of the doubt on that end even though he has been stunned in years prior and say that Brook will win by decision by an average of 3 to 4 points. Brook has very good timing, power, and control of distance. Spence has a great snappy jab but from watching tapes I feel he has a tendency to telegraph his power shots. I think Brook will be able to move and stay out of range of Spence's power shots until the mid-point of the fight, where generally imo timing and strength starts to take over speed and explosiveness. At that point I can see Brook being more comfortable with the 1-2 on the outside and landing his uppercuts on the inside against Spence's hooks. That being said I will not be surprised if Spence takes it. To do that he has to break down Brook to the body in the early rounds, using his faster handspeed jab Brook to the body on the outside and win exchanges on the inside with explosive body shots, and draining Brook's stamina. I also don't know if Brook will show up at 100% coming off an injury and struggling to make weight past 30 years old. If he shows up flat footed he is screwed.
I think brook will use the left hook over Spence's jab but his money shot is the straight right. Spence is made for taking a slick punchers right hand.
As for the Wright nobody can prove that Spence has found it any easier to get himself down to 147lbs. His just like Brook in the sense making weight isnt easy work.
Spence is a good fighter, but I think Brook will win with a late stoppage. Definitely a tough one to call, though. It could go either way.
Brook's last fight was at 160 though so he had to shed muscle mass that he had to put on to fight Golovkin.
Agreed but I still don't think it's a major difference between the two. Spence himself admitted its hard for him getting to 147lbs. I guarantee he has to be just as disciplined as Kell to make it. Did Spence reveal what his weight was two weeks ago when brook said he was at 153?
nah bro, the only difference for brook at mw was he could eat anything and ONLY had to worry about 160, he didn't put on all this extra lbs of muscle, he just didn't have to watch his weight and didn't have to drain for 30/48 hours prior to weigh in. both brook and Spence are massive ww's and I do mean massive. Brook gained more weight after the ggg loss but no more than he usually gains for the 45/75 day break they take after fights. Spence doesnt blow up to high 180's's between fights like brook but positive he's in the 170's. both fighters went in to this camp right around the same as they went into their past camps. great fight, both their biggest and most important fights of their careers. Brook was fully excused for losing to ggg the1so that fight never meant anything, and porter was an easy win out of his country.. This is huge for both, HUGE. Spence tho
He never put muscle mass on for this fight thats such a myth. He was 185 at the start of golovkin camp he weighed in at 160 8 weeks later. If he has dropped 25lbs how has he also gained muscle??? The difference is he never had to cut any further than 160 its that simple. He never gained any muscle mass its impossible to do whilst also dropping 25lbs in bodyweight within an 8 week period....
Spence is a 2 - 1 favorite, all the experts are picking Spence to win a very easy early knockout as he is being touted as the greatest welterweight in boxing history, totally unbeatable, can't be hit, never had a punch landed on him, was the best boxer in the Olympics, punches harder than anyone in boxing today....................however, some reason I have a gut feeling that Brook might win the upset, esp, since he is expected to have zero chance, which gives him an incentive to train hard and fight hard. Does Spence hit harder than Golovkin? Some claim his does, faster than Ray Leonard? This his what I have read.............so I expect Spence to win by easy 1st or second round knockout, just walk through Brook as if he was not even there, so why bother to have the fight in the first place? Nobody gives Brook a chance, but still feel we all might be surprised................
