it's much too soon to be talking about fighters from the past. but as it stands right now, i'd pick Quartey to win.
Sturm's when he still had it was very good. He, Dzinziruk and Kessler probably had the best three at one point in time. (but fans who didn't follow the European scene wouldn't have known it)
Won't be long. Dec- Brook batters Brandon Rios Apr- Brook KO's Khan Nov- Brook pummels Pacquiao >Mayweather see's the writing on the wall and retires. :yep
Quartey had a better jab and was physically stronger, although more robotic than Brook. I pick Quartey, as of now, but it isn't totally settled.
And it's the best damn jab to the body ever caught on film. He's kept many fighters in check with that.
Winky made better use of his, but pound for pound Ike's was the heaviest I've seen since Liston. Mercer had a telephone pole jab too, so did foreman. Ali out jabbed Liston, and Foreman, but his was not as heavy. Ike put his whole body into it, and tried to hurt his opponents with it. He used it as an equal weapon to the right hand not just to set it up.
Brook reminds me a little of Shane Mosely in the way he moves. Don't remember Shane clinching as much though. Shane was quicker too in his heyday.
Yes, it is totally settled. Quartey was MUCH better than Brook. Talk about a guy going from underrated to overrated.
Mosley in his prime was better than Brook at EVERY aspect of boxing. You Brits have lost your ****ing minds since Saturday. Kell Brook is a good fighter. Nothing more. He hardly compares to the 90's welters. He'd be lucky to beat Oba Carr, let alone Quartey.
saying that sturm had a very good jab, but nobody who didn't follow the European scene would know it, raises a glaring contradiction.... if sturm's jab was in the top 3 in the world at the time, yet he fought and held his paper belts in an era when guys like Hopkins, pavlik, taylor, Martinez and Williams were ruling his division (none of whom he ever fought, or had any intention of fighting), aren't you crediting how good he looked against b-graders? its not like he was joe calzaghe, who was the best in his division, and he didn't need to cross the pond to beat bigger names (at SMW) to prove it
