This is far closer to the truth than Brook thinking he's world class to be honest. When is he going to fight a live body? I class those Brits as live bodies too. A featherfisted Jennings who was coming off a shellacking by Cotto doesn't convince me that much. Jennings stepped into the ring with no confidence at all.
Kotey was pretty decent As for Jones ducking Brook don't be silly. Like Wallet says, the fight doesn't make sense until it's confirmed as an eliminator. He needs to step up soon tho, even if it's against a half decent domestic opponent before Jones. Anyone but a punching bag
Thats because America will not give him a chance, its all well and good saying hes not fought any top ten fighter, but as i said if none are willing to give him his chance what can he do?. Hes no1 contender surely theres a top 10 fighter who would want to fight him???? seems not, it not Kells fault. I say if he wants to fight Williams let him and give him credit for wanting to take the chance, if you slate him for wanting to fight Williams then you and whoever else has that view are hypocrites.
Okay, so its every other fighter in the worlds issue and nothing to do with Frank Warren and Kell Brook. Interesting theory.
I'm not being critical of Kell, just saying this level of opponent isnt where he should be competing at the moment. I'm a big fan, he's by far the best we have domestically @147 & needs a top10 fight this year, preferably next if he can either sort out a new contract with Fwank or move on elsewhere. If not Jones then there are a few unbeaten Europeans around as well. More importantly I'd like to see him prove himself at a higher level which I'm sure he can do. Even having his name mentioned with Williams raises his profile, I remember him saying he would beat Pac a while ago. Easy publicity.
If he wants to get the big names... how about cleaning up the European scene first? How many decent fighters have his team made serious offers to? They keep talking about Khan, Pacquiao, Williams etc. but at the end of the day we all know it isn't happening because what they would rather do is sit on that WBO ranking and wait for the vacant title. If he signs with GBP or someone then we will know he is serious about facing top fighters, but I think we'll see him resign with Warren and keep fighting these nobodies until he's got a trinket around his waist.
He doesn't have to clean up, but he either needs to **** or get off the pot. He's been hovering around that WBO title for god knows how long and he still hasn't even fought a live body in the mean time. If he stepped up the plate and fought a Craig Watson even, he'd earn a bit more cred. He's knocked over a lot of fighters with questionable chins or that were just bad.
I agree with posters who have said that Brook has yet to clean up at domestic or European level, but the fact is that he is the mandatory for a world title, these days - I don't think that he deserves that position (I am a big fan but he has just not fought enough quality for me), but I don't think that we can blame him, now that he has that status, for looking to the world scene for opponents, to help justify the position if nothing else. I think that there are other more obvious fights for him, but at least a Paul Williams fight would tell us a lot about both of them. Massive step up for Brook but at least we would finally find out whether he is half as good as he looked early on, and half as good as he thinks he is now. He might just prove the doubters wrong all on one night, which would be good for British boxing.
lol so many are blinded by hype, what chance did fans and critics give Honeyghan when he went across the pond to fight curry???
Because he hasn't earned that position and if he steps up without fighting anyone decent he will be ****ed. One of the reasons Froch has done so well is because he Magee, Dodson, Reid before he stepped up for his title.
