The pre-Golovkin Brook vs a prime Mayorga.

I'd take Mayorga to be a bit too nasty and tough for Brook. Never really rated Brook as highly as a lot of others and felt he flattered to deceive in his rare forays at the highest level. Nice stylist but very one-paced with less than spectacuar power, which I think would spell trouble for him here. I think Mayorga ends up just walking him down and clubbing him to a messy stoppage in the late rounds, having pegged back an early points deficit.

Agreed with the consensus. Mayorga wasn't as tough as he liked to think, but Brook wasn't a Hoya/Tito-esque puncher. Sure, he wasn't exactly featherfisted but it's nothing crazy. Mayorga gets all up in his **** and starts out-working him, roughing him up and keeping it dirty. Brook folds at some point. Probably mid to late.

If I was forced to bet on it then I'd have to go on the top-tier experience of Mayorga. But I'd be laying that bet begrudgingly, because I think Brook has a chance here.

Brook showed he could handle pressure against Porter, in my opinion, and I am not sure if Mayorga brings much more heat to the ring than did Porter.

Prepared to read others' thoughts on that, however.

I think Brook was good enough to get the decision, but gets underrated today for losing to Spence, who is also better than given credit for.

    Great thread.

In many ways shawn porter was just as in your face and relentless as the mayorga of the 6 heads lewis and forrest victories. That was ine tough determinded guy.porter tho had skills too...and brook beat him and hed beat mayorga.brook in his prime was elite level such a shame it took him a long time to fight at world level and than he blew his career fighting a juggernaut like GGG in 2015 at MW

This is an intriguing match-up. It depends on brook's composure to me. If he can keep it cool and not get over emotional and avoid brawling he can win. Mayorga's punches whistled like missles at 147 though. That type of pressure is hard not to fold and give in to. If brook has a gameplan he can stick to i think he wins. If the fight unfolds organically he is upper case ****ed.
